I did call Adobe this morning and was pleasantly surprised that it only took 5-10 minutes to reach tech support. Got my login issue resolved and was able to download the latest Photoshop CC updates and now my D850 NEF files are readable. Now I'm just looking forward to learning the camera. My first test shots on an eye chart show it is extremely sharp. My D750 is great but this is even better.

It is a national USA holiday today and they answered the phone! Thanks for writing that it worked!

I think the issue is this: Do the DNG files provide the exact digital data, sharpness, colors, shades, as the NEF files would provide if DNG conversion were not necessary? I've heard "experts" say that there is some loss in the sharpness at the interface of one picture element from another in the foreground or background. They even provided highly magnified images of those interfaces processed straight from NEF against those that had undergone NEF to DNG conversion. If you do not intend to make maximum size enlargements, it probably is inconsequential, but if you want to maintain all the sharpness promised you by your camera/lens choices, why willingly degrade the image, even if ever so slightly through the DNG conversion process? I hope to hear from others in this regard. The thought of keeping my NEF originals as well as my DNG with NEF files embedded in them is discomforting, to say the least.

I have a similar problem that I don't understand. Often, when viewing older JPEG images Photoshop can't deal with them. My work-around has been to open them in Paint and then re-save as JPEG or .PNG. That was a sure-fire solution with Photoshop Elements, but the re-saved JPEG still won't open in Photoshop CC, which I just got about a week ago. Anyone know what might be going on here?

That makes no sense! How are you opening them? What can you open?

Consider posting a question in Adobe's user-to-user forum for "beginners" here: https://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop/photoshop_for_beginners

Phil,

I had a problem similar to your with the Nikon D850. However, I have use Apple Aperture for many years to post process, store and hesitate to change.

Does anyone have a problem similar to mine. If so, did you solve and how?

Ralph
