If thats a threaded 1/4 hole in the base of the clamp i think so. Looks like its designed for converting a manfrotto ball head into an arca swiss ball head. Manfrotto are pretty decent but then when you want to use different plates, arca swiss is the fitting to have...

I am looking for a light weight tripod connection (plate not the tripod head) that screws directly onto a 1/4" screw- not the quick connection plate that connects to the camera. Although I will need that too. Not looking for brand specific. But lightweight. Thanks.

Manfroto ,Bogan makes one it is a plate mount ,I have made my own pano rig and use that style mount for it I will dig it out tomorrow and photograph it for you and get the model # for you ..It is a 323 RC2 system quick release adapter for a w/200pl-14 plate both Manfrotto from B+H $39.95 for plate and mount comes w/ a1/4 20 adapter and mount is 3/8 threaded ..

No I don't think so. Think of connecting a camera to a monopod without a head- A connection plate screwed in directly to the monopod and then the camera to the connection plate via a quick release plate attached to the camera. Hope that makes sense. I have a Manfrotto set up but it is on the heavy side.

Take a look at Sachtler products. I have used their small quick release system for years, the small unit works well on a monopod and the plate can be left on the camera or angle bracket if you have one and not be obtrusive. I use same system on ball heads, gimbals etc. so your not constantly changing plates .

Did an Amazon search for 1/4 to 3/8 tripod adapter & came up with the below list. These are really inexpensive ways to convert your 1/4" monopod screw to 3/8". Then you can use a regular quick release plate on that.

There have been many great suggestions for a quick release. This is how I would attach it to your PVC pipe. On the lathe at work, I would turn down aluminum round stock to fit the inside of the PVC pipe. There would be a larger diameter at the top to act as a base for the quick release mechanism. There would be cross drilled holes that match up with the existing cross drilling holes in the PVC pipe. At the top I would drill and tap a 3/8-16 thread. It would be counterbored so that the hex of an Impact CA-115 3/8" to 3/8" adapter would be below the base surface. If you want to you can send me the PVC pipe and I'll make the part.

Thank you so much for your offer and the details. It would be a big improvement. I would like to wait until we have completed the final details of the actual support device as this one is a bit crude still. It works but could certainly be improved upon in fit and finish before it comes to you for the mount. I am trying to keep it as light weight as possible. The PVC pipe is light and strong and when painted look fine but the tripod connectors aren't (Manfrotto) - I know that RRS would have just the thing but in this case can't justify the cost. Lots of links here to go through yet. If I could get back to you that would be great!
