Glad you brought this up, we're working with a D7000 but haven't been shooting in RAW although my partner wants to..the file size and resource drain slowdown on the few tried seems to be prohibitive when we are shooting a couple of hundred photos each weekend so that glitz hasn't been noticed.

I have CR2 but I've been upgrading and using Elements and Paintshop Pro for some time..a lot less expensive, use the same filters and seem to have all of the features needed for photography. I take postwork to a level far beyond the norm.

Now I'll have to do some experimenting. Thanks for the heads up.

Regarding Eugene and others are invited to chime in: is it true that if you shoot RAW+JEPG that the JPEG image is not as good as a JPEG image in the "fine" mode shot alone?

No. What I was saying is that if I shoot in RAW + JPEG the jpeg image is much better than the unedited raw. Bob and Haze are correct though. As they state this is because the raw image hasn't been adjusted by the camera settings where the jpeg does get adjusted by the camera settings. However on my camera when I shoot in RAW+ Jpeg the jpeg file is only a standard quality not fine.

In Raw + JPEG the camera shoots in standard jpeg the file size of the jpeg is around 1mb. In fine mode it is around 4 mb. So yes. At least with the camera I shoot the quality of the jpeg will not be as good as it would be if you shoot in jpeg fine.

I have a D7000 as well and found I also had to upgrade to CS5 to get the camera profile for RAW file format.

I am fortunate to have my grandson in college and he very kindly bought me CS5 through the academic discount program; it cost about $159. So if you know of someone in school, it might be worth it to check it out!

Just a thought.

I have a D7000 as well and this does work. I process all of my images in lightroom first then move to photoshop. I do have CS4, but always use lightroom first. You can try converting it to a DNG (digital negative) when you export it from lightroom. I don't think you lose too much info from the raw format that way and photoshop works well with the dng format.

We have gone down this road before..cs3 does not have a raw converter for D7000.. you are right in that you have to upgrade..crazy but true. The only other solution is to get elements 10 for around $80.00 ..bring in your raw files..make your adjustments and then hit go to photoshop from there..otherwise you are stuck with the DNG converter. good luck. The other option would be to get lightroom 3..bring the raw files into lightroom and then move to photoshop but make sure this will work ..call adobe..or talk to someone who has lightroom..and whether its is compatible with CS3

I've had a Nikon D7000 now for about 6 months. I use photoshop CS3 and cannot edit my pic's in the raw format because it doesn't recognise the format. I read that CS4 & 5 can be updated to do so but not CS3. So I ended up downloading Nikons DNG converter to convert my raw files to dng. Just yesterday though I realised when I used my ViewNX2 software that came with the camera just how much the converter is degrading my raw pic's through compression. I can edit my raw with the Nikon software but it doesn't even come close to PS! So that's compatability problem #1 which means that in order to edit in full raw format that I'll have to fork out $500 + for the newest version of PS. Needless to say that sucks. Also, the same problem is associated with the video. I bought from Best Buy their most expensive and up to date video editor of Roxio which said it would edit the format in my camera but lo and behold!! it didn't recognise my cameras video recording format!! I have to say that it's pretty dissappointing when you can't get your camera to do what it's supposed to do without having to update to the most cutting edge, high priced software!! It seems to be the American way these days!!

Go to Adobe's website and download the latest Camera RAW software and everything should then work. I have a D7000.

The updates for CS3 don't work for some cameras. I have both Olympus e420 and e620. camera raw works with the e420, but not the e620. Go figure. I am fortunate though that Olympus has the best in camera jpeg processing in the industry. Just sayin'.

A PM is a Personal Message.

If you shoot weddings, RAW is essential in my opinion, as you will have lighting and contrast issues (white dresses for example) that Jpeg cannot handle well.

The Nikon D7000 will shoot RAW and JPEG and you can choose the JPEG to be standard or fine in the second slot.

I have also had a Nikon D7000 for about 6-8 months. I went to uscollegebuy.com and picked a copy of CS5 and Lightroom 3 for about $270.00 You MUST, however, be either a student or teacher to qualify. You must be able to prove you are a student. I understand Adobe also offers student editions. These programs are working just fine for me. I have been able to do SO much with these programs. They are legitimate Adobe products and perfectly suited for what I'm doing now. Hope you are able to work this out.
