What kind of lines? Could they be on a non-original screen protector? If so, remove and replace. Some protectors are difficult to detect.

In a way you are lucky.

Good suggestions over the grid by the way. You might want to download a manual from the web and check this suggestion out.

That is the single most important thing. Time to dump that cheapskate.

I got a camera for Christmas and I just found out he got it from a pawn shop. Now the screen has lines through it and won't go away. Any ideas on how I can fix it. Or is it ruined?

Grid lines, an be changed in menu, keep searching.

To all:

For all you know there maybe financial issues so the digs over the gift giver are really out of line.

Please let it go. It is not even funny.

Not everyone can afford a Porsche for his 82 years old wife. This really happened two years ago. 'Whiz' since passed away from cancer. He was also 82 years old and was happy driving a dead beat pickup.

Just checking (and trying to be helpful?), is it possible that the screen view has been set up with grid lines? Please see the link here: http://support-th.canon-asia.com/contents/TH/EN/8202798800.html; key item 27.

If it’s just the grid lines (fingers crossed here) they can be turned off in the Settings Menu, and there’s not a problem with the camera.

That is what I have been wondering since this thread started.......did the OP say just horizontal lines? I don't remember....perhaps she is looking at a tic-tak-do set of lines ???

If your boyfriend is a porn shop kind of guy he should know about cameras very well. He should test the camera carefully before giving it to you. If not perhaps replace the BF?

Glad my wife is not a cheapo, she gave me a new Gitzo Tripod as a gift just before we got married in 1984. And it was from a real photo shop (now gone sadly).

A Freudian slip, perhaps?

I'm betting on a corrupt card.
Swap it out to a different one and see if it makes a difference.

At least you know what you have! Consider your options carefully before declaring him a keeper.

As for the camera, you have received some excellent suggestions. If the camera did not come with a manual, you should be able to download one from Canon's website. That will help you learn your way around it, especially the menu and set-up options.
