I got a camera for Christmas and I just found out he got it from a pawn shop. Now the screen has lines through it and won't go away. Any ideas on how I can fix it. Or is it ruined?

What kind of camera?. Can you see the image on the screen? If you download the image to your computer does it have the lines?
What brand and are you talking about. Try a factory reset.
Are you image suffering from the same issue?
- If not just deal with it.
- If yes, you will need to have it repaired.
Note that coming from a pawn shop you have no proof or origin. If it was declared stolen there is a chance that the camera will be identified.
Ashley, chances are it's a repair shop trip for the camera. Be prepared for that.

What camera? Can you fix a problem of that type? Hard to say without more info, but, the odds are that you can't. Can it be fixed professionally? Sure, just about anything can, but, is it worth the cost? First, talk to the person who gave it to you. Maybe the pawn shop has a warranty or return policy. Unlikely, but worth checking. Secondly, a guy giving you a pawn shop gift for Christmas? I would check and see if there is a return policy on the guy! Just kidding! Sort of. I don't know the details of the gift giving so I shouldn't comment on it. Still.......
Are all sales final? Make sure you know what was paid. For older equipment, there's usually a minimum amount due to even look at the equipment. Don't throw good money after bad. If you can show it's broken equipment, will the shop offer a trade for a working model?
Time for a new boyfriend.

It depends. If the lines are on the camera screen but not on the down loaded pictures I would worry less. Unless they are extreme and interfere with even seeing the last shot. If the lines show up on the down loaded image then it is most likely history.
We would like to help, but knowing the type of camera helps. Is this a 10 y/o cheap point and shoot or a 2 y/o semi professional DSLR?
Thank u guys. I'll try putting them on the computer tomorrow. I was just so upset about where it came from. I went to use it cause it was my daughter's b-day and I saw the screen when I turned it on I put it away. It is a cannon sx720. He said it was new from a camera store. IDK. Good night😄 I have to go back to bed
I'd say stick with the camera store version of the story :) that way he can bring it back and exchange it for a new one... I believe in the month or two since he bought it they have come out with an sx730 - both models are nice cameras. I bet he simply forgot that he purchased it from B&H Photo online - they will likely be only too happy to ship a new one pronto.
Just checking (and trying to be helpful?), is it possible that the screen view has been set up with grid lines? Please see the link here:

If it’s just the grid lines (fingers crossed here) they can be turned off in the Settings Menu, and there’s not a problem with the camera.

I was thinking the same thing. If he asks her to marry him, she better be careful or her finger will turn green from the hock shop engagement ring.

I bet those line won't affect your pictures at all.

An ebay replacement would probably cost less.
