When I travel I use my laptop to download images from my cards at night by just connecting the hard drives to the computer. The cards (compact flash cards) are in a card reader. I put them in a folder that is identified by the date. Not sure why you don't want to do this. I usually backup to 3 hard drives and keep one with me and 2 in the motel room.

When I travel it's for 2-3 weeks at a time with only a carry on and backpack. So weight is important - so I don't travel with a laptop. I take an iPad and the WD Passport. Every night I back up to both the iPad and the WD. Giving me 2 copies. The 3rd copy is kept on the SD card until I return home and everything is safely transferred to my computer. My travels are to places I will only get to once in my life and I'd hate to lose images because of disk failure, theft, loss, etc. It doesn't take me any time at all to make the copies on a daily basis. Haven't had any problems with the WD.

It store ANYTHING, and you aren't limited to SD cards, It can transfer from any USB device. (It can CHARGE a tablet or phone too).

On something like this - don't go by reviewers who give a product like this 5 stars. It just means they haven't had it very long and it hasn't failed. It's important to look at the 1 star reviews too. Looking at the Amazon reviews, a product that has more 1 and 2 star reviews combined than 5 star reviews spells trouble. There are a lot of unhappy owners.


One clue that you don't want this - the 4 TB version costs $200. Do you think they put their best drives in any of these? They don't. They only warranty this for 2 yrs. Their good drives, pro-grade, enterprise-level drives all have 5 yr warranties.

It seems like a reasonable product on paper, but with all the nonsense with failed drives, losing connections, lousy software, etc - hey, it's your money.
