Hi. We're traveling to Cuba in a couple of weeks and I am really looking forward to taking lots of shots. I am not going to bring a laptop but want to back up my pcictures off my SD card daily. Is there such a thing as an external HDD that doesn't need to be plugged into a laptop that will accept a microsd card?

Hmm, kinda pricey but I guess that's to be expected. Thanks.

Alternative is buy more SD cards and back up each day with a new card.

Maybe so, but so is loosing your once in a lifetime images. Buy extra SD cards and still backup to the Passport.

That looks like a nice solution, PixelStan77. Exactly what the OP asked for. Thanks for sharing the link.

Yes, but they are typically not very reliable. I use a RavPower WD-03 and a handful of 128 gb flash memory sticks. Smaller, no moving parts, very reliable - and very cheap.

Just $149USD on Amazon for 2TB of storage. Pretty reasonable, and priced same as for 1TB. Good SD cards aren't cheap either... :)

My solution is to use Eyefi cards and send them to your phone or tablet, I have used this method for years now and could be your answer.
EyeFi sold out to Toshiba a year or so ago and there app is called "Keenai" ( https://www.keenai.com/applications/ )
EyeFi SD cards can be quite expensive but you can use Toshiba FlashAir Sd cards and they are much cheaper ( http://www.toshiba-memory.com/cms/en/products/wireless-sd-cards/FlashAir/ )

I program my WD Passport Wireless Pro so it automatically copies photos from the SD card to the hard drive. Just plug SD card into Passport. Turn on. Wait until lights stop flashing.

I'm sure if I dug into their manual it would tell me but does that automatic copy copy everything it finds or just photos?

The WD Passport manual says:
Quote:
In the SD Card area, Import Mode field, select one of the following options to identify how you’d like to move your data.
▪ M o v e : This option moves your files from your SD Card to your My Passport Wireless Pro drive.
C a u t io n : When you move the files, they are removed from the SD card.
▪ C o p y : This option copies the content of your SD Card to your My Passport Wireless Pro drive.

I just tested the auto-download. It moved all files/folders from my camera's SD card to the WD Passport hard drive. Data goes into a folder named "SD Card Imports". Within "SD Card Imports" there is a folder for each download date. If you want to arrange auto-downloaded files differently, plug the drive into your computer and manually move file.

Nice so even some unsupported image or movie file would still get copied.
