Why waste precious vacation time editing photos? Take more cards than you think you will need. Edit when you get home. Enjoy!

You guys are better at this than I am! My only "task"while traveling is to make sure that I have gone to the trouble to backup my photos, and I have found that my MacBookAir is the best vehicle for this purpose. I do also carry a Seagate hard drive for additional safety. Once I have uploaded my shots to my MBA, I next ruthlessly edit them. Then, using Mac's photo sharing ability, they are also (normally) on my wife's iPad, so I feel pretty good about being backed up -- at least for my purposes, which are solely for my own enjoyment; I usually create a slide show of each trip.

Now to add one additional level of security, my wife is at my side with her iPhone 7, snapping scenes that she likes, and I admit that I have "borrowed" some of her shots if I missed anything. She is more interested in capturing photos of the friends that we normally travel with, so she always gets some shots that I have missed.

Take extra cards with you, and if you want to load your pictures, your iPhone will work just fine so long as you have at least a 64 or 128 gig phone. That way you can see what you got, and you can save any editing for when you get home. An iPad is nice for viewing, but it’s just too bulky. Spend your time doing neat stuff instead.

I use the 10.5” iPad Pro. Be sure to get max memory. If you use Lightroom mobile, your raw files will upload to Adobe (and even down to your home computer if it’s on, Lightroom is running and connected.) The pencil helps with editing.

All edits you make on the road will be applied to original sidecar file.

If memory becomes an issue, Sandisk iExpand thumdrives work well for offloading and backup.

Have a great trip.

I use the latest 12.9” iPad Pro, 256gb. I have Lr mobile and also purchased affinity for $19.99. In fact affinity is all you need if you don’t have Lr on your home computer. I would get at least the 256gb version, but it should depend on your camera and whether you are a picture hoarder or not. Btw, I highly recommend the IPad pro. Enjoy your trip and the iPad Pro!

If you must take a tablet, I concur with the 256gb 12.9” iPad Pro. That’s what I have, and it has plenty of room for lots of vacation pictures. I don’t have Affinity, though. I have it on my MacBook Pro, but not the iPad. It’s a nice screen for editing, too, and you can use the Apple Pencil for editing areas that require a fine line.

I use a Dell laptop which belongs to my employer but I can use it. If I have to buy my own may be a Surface Pro. I wouldn't edit on them though I just check and see if I need to redo any pictures.

I took a WD external hard drive with a slot for a SD card. Every night in Kauai I downloaded all pictures from that day. Also used Wi Fi from camera to....

Recently got a Dell XPS 13 with A 512 SSD and an external 1T portable drive. I was recently on Kauai and the set up worked quite well and I was able to watch Netflix on the plane and in what little downtime I had.

Not interested in just enjoying Hawaii. I took pictures in Hawaii but I also vacationed there. You're just going to Hawaii to get pictures and then do what you do at home???

How shitty is that?

Oh and iPads are just of the most worthless devices as well as costly, that I have seen in 25 years of running my computer consulting businesses... No power and No storage of any consequense, no matter how much you TRY to beef them up.

I’m using the all out version of affinity photo on mine and I love this product more than my 5k iMac. Lr is faster on this device than any home computer. Did you know that? Not as bad as you make it sound like. I didn’t need 526gb of storage on mine so I went for 256gb.

I am not sure if you have any actual experience with the new iPad Pro with the latest operating system. Do you?

We are in 2018 and having a laptop or a tablet to use to check your photos on each night is not a sin.

And as an FYI, t is you who need to get on the wagon. Are you using a film camera?
