Both are good pictures. #1, for me, cannot be "Sunset" because there is too much good stuff in the picture taking away from the sunset. #2 has too much detraction on the left side. I would crop away the left side to just beyond the short, red pole.

I like the first one better. I wonder if there is some tilt in it? Looks to me that it could be rotated a little to the right. What do you think?

The judging can be a bit strange at times but we have fun.
I have two pictures I am trying to decide between for the building category.
I like the one with the sunset in the background best, but I am not sure if the subject is the barn or the sunset. Which would you choose for this category?

I agree with you Country Mama. I like the sunset the best. I also enter our county fair just for fun but sometimes make a few bucks . I think it just depends on the friends the judge has . Our fair usually uses the local photography shop owner as the judge.

I like both, but like 2 the best.

Solomon had an easy choice with just one baby to choose from, you on the other hand have a more difficult choice. Like you, I like the mood of the first shot, but it might not satisfy the criteria of the category. If you are allowed to edit and adjust your entry, I think #2 is the better choice. Tweak it a bit and it's a fine entry. Good luck at the fair.

This is, once again, one of those subjective calls. There are no horizontal lines that are known to be true horizontal. It's possible that the leftmost vertical of the right building might supposed to be vertical. If so, it's pretty close as is, and any other adjustment would be a perspective distortion adjustment, which in my opinion, is neither needed or wanted on this image.

They are both interesting photos. The first is so lovely, it doesn't look real. Love the contrast between the warmth of the sunset and the coolness of the snow. It's my favorite. You should enter that in the sunset category.

The second seems to fit the category better, and following the educated suggestions already made, you will have a most worthy contribution. Much luck to you.

Unfortunately there isn't a sunset category in digital. The categories were set up by a non-photography person and are very strange.

Like both but I would go with #2 for the contest.

My 2 cents worth, there both very good, the one you like the best is the one you enter.

I think the second photo fits the category best and the sunlight hitting it's side looks attractive.

I agree with the majority....the first is beautiful also, but showcases the sky more than the barn.

the first pic is pretty but I like the second the way the light is hitting the left side of the barn , you can see the age and worn look to the barn.

Both are good photo's, but the competition is 'Building' This weakens the Case for #1 because the sunset predominates. #2 sky is blown out, as has been said, the rest well photographed but ordinary. How about digging through your files for a barn with real character: old wood, perhaps half collapsed, weeds and spider webs and dark creepy interior. OK, just an idea, it's pretty late at night for me.
