I have the 18-400 and it stays on my D500 95% of the time . . . It is a great walk-about lens . . .

Although I have a canon, (7DII) I have this lens on that camera.
I am constantly amazed by this lens. I was playing around with this lens yesterday downstairs, where the lighting is poor, and it captured a pic of my dog with no trouble at all. It acted like it was an f2.8! (3.5-6.3)
It has a very positive review here on the hog. You won't be sorry you purchased this lens! And the focal spread is amazing!

You have already received good info on this lens. And another thing I like about the Tamron 18-400mm is the price of $649. This lens is on my wish list. But, I need to sell a DX version 70-300mm first.
I understand the topic was , I was just giving an option , and yes I like the Sigma very much
I'm just getting into photography and opted for the cropped sensor camera purely on price. I bought a Canon T6s a year or so ago and have enjoyed it a lot. I do a lot of hiking and traveling and got a little tired of always carrying and swapping lenses to get that just right shot. I purchased the Tamron 18-400 lens a few months ago and have loved it. Pretty much the only lens that I keep on my cameras anymore unless I am trying to get a wider shot. I use a 10-18 Ultra wide Cannon lens for that. The Tamron is a great all round lens. Focus is fairly quick and consistent and I've been able to get some great shots. As stated, amateur beginner would be my status, but it has worked well for me.
