I hear that a lot. My response is usually, "because I am a good photographer, I demand the best camera I can afford."

So which camera did the OP use? Did he use a bad camera? When someone takes good pictures the chance are much more likely that he/she has a good camera.

A rather ridiculous post even if it makes a point: A camera is merely a tool. I've taken some good photos with a cell phone because it was all I has with me at the time. But I don't expect to be able to do with a cell phone what I can do with mt full-frame camera.
While it is true that the best camera is the one you have with you, it is not true that the camera does not matter, that the photographer's talent is all that matters. Hell, I even took a photo with an oatmeal box back in high school but I don't expect to get decent portraits or night sky shots with it -- nor do I foolishly believe I can get the same quality with my crop camera as I get with my full-frame camera. A camera does matter. Shoot with a decent full-frame and you'll understand.
Next time you go in for surgery, lend your Swiss Army knife to the surgeon and see how good he really is.

Over the years I've received that comment about the camera and then been asked what it was - the commentator wanted to buy one as a gift. I'm still wondering if the recipient got good pictures!

While displaying at a gallery - I like the "complement" === "Wow! Your photographs look just like an Oil Painting." This occurs more often than one might think.... (I Know that they are trying to give me a complement, as "they" do not have anything to compare it with in their mind.)
As soon as "they" move on to other works in the gallery - I take a close look as to (Not only why they 'saw' that in my prints) but did I NOT get a good sharp image?

I give some credit to my cameras for good photos. Way better than what I got with my 110 many years ago.

I am not a professional but it appears your ego as a photographer may be getting too heavy! First, you can't kick in open doors they are already open. As a somewhat unskilled photographer I know how to frame a shot, and take fairly good photos but I could agree that if a person always used auto and let the camera do the set up, they could take good photos with a good camera and the same person could take poor photos with a bad camera. If you are experienced, you know how to compensate and make manual adjustments to get good photos with a bad camera but not everyone has that ability - yet! Chill, this forum is for all levels!
