Need some help and advice from the knowledgeable members. First let me say that about 80 to 90% of my photos are birds. Secondly is a list of lenses I now own. All are Nikon # 1 18-55 f\3.5-5.6 (kit), #2 55-200 f\4.5-5.6 (kit), #3 18-300 f\3.5-6.3, and #4 200-500 f\5.6, I also own a Nikon TC-14E II 1.4x Teleconverter. Now for the question, I am going to upgrade my D7100, and am thinking about a D7200 or D500. What does everyone think and why? Thanks for the help.

D500; endless buffer so you can take many, many shots quickly. This alone should suffice to convince you for photo-ing birds.

Making the jump, then consider the D7500 vs the D7200 IMO https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product/dslr-cameras/d7500.html

As already stated. The D500 is your best bet for birds. Along with the Nikon 200-500mm zoom lens. If your budget allows it? The D7200 is a satisfactory choice too. The D500 is the best crop sensor DSLR available today. Great in low light conditions and action sports, with quality fast lenses. Good luck.

Also, great buffer and 10f/s My go-to combo for wildlife

The D5 and D500 are the first two Nikons to have a processor dedicated solely to autofocus. I think the new D850 has it also. On previous Nikons, the same processor carried out image processing and autofocus duties. When I purchased my D500 it was immediately noticeable. All of my lenses focus faster and very accurately.

So, the D7500 doesn't have the same auto-focusing??

The D7500 has the 51-point Multi-CAM 3500DX II module. It's the same as the D7200 and one generation past the Multi-CAM 3500DX of the D7100. The 500 has the 153-point Multi-CAM 20K module.

I have a D850 and it is great. But if I mainly shot sports or birds and wildlife, I would buy the D500 in a heart beat.

I have a D850 and it is great. But if I mainly shot sports or birds and wildlife, I would buy the D500 in a heart beat. The price, AF, FPS, buffer and Dx crop would be the reason. If the D500 was too much $$$, I would get the 7500 and cry just a little about one Sd slot and the worse Af, FPS. Still an outstanding camera.
