Do you think there is any chance of a camera that is smaller than its LCD?

People keep wanting smaller cameras yet larger LCD so is there a time when the LCD is larger than the camera?

I am going to insult you....

Is this question for real? How can a camera be smaller than a sensor of the sensor is part of the camera?

And now the insult:

I think this a subject for Chris T...

(reference to insult)

Anything is possible. Perhaps some day there will be a virtual LCD implant in your eye and the camera will be the size of a button. Since the implant in your eye is small, and the image you see can be full screen, so to speak, you'll see the image very large or as large as you like including the ability to blow it up like you can on your computer screen or on the LCD on your camera. NEVER KNOW!

Insult me all you want and still I will never put you on my ignore list.
The question is for real as I suddenly thought of a way to do just that.
Well is a deep subject and I don't think Chris T can handle it.

Yes. They are called cell phones. Think about it. Large LCD screen, tiny camera. I think you were just considering a dedicated camera version.

If the view screen is part of the camera then the camera cannot be smaller than itself.

Well, it could be a camera module attached to the back of an LCD screen module. Of course attaching lenses of any size would render the concept of a very tiny camera moot.

How? Answer that one and you might have a fortune waiting for you.

As I said, a cell phone does just that. Of course, one would have to give up on using top notch interchangeable lenses.

I think Sony make one, clips to a cell phone and uses the phones screen.

Others already have answers Ron.
The cell phone (or a tablet for that matter) isn't a camera so the camera portion is small and the screen is big.
The implanted LCD is an OK idea and that's virtually big but not really big but not for me as I don't want no implant.
The add on camera Blackest talked about is a good one and is close to my idea.
My idea is to make a camera with a small removable screen. It can snap on the camera when you want it. Other time it can be detached if you don't wanna chimp. Other time still you can get something like a 10" optional screen and connect to the camera via a wireless interface.

Like some kind of expanding fold-out screen? Sure, why not. I am certain there will be some interesting technical developments related to electronic display screens in the coming years. Which should have at least some impact on camera design.

Are you really Bebu, or are you Chrissie in disguise?
