Do you think there is any chance of a camera that is smaller than its LCD?

Why do you need a LCD?
Why do you need a camera?
All we need is an interface from our brain to the outside other peoples brains so they can see what we see.

They are already out there. See the Sony QX10 or QX100.

It is not just a clip on lens. The camera has its own lens and has its own 1" sensor and basic controls. The camera becomes a wifi hotspot for the phone to connect to. It uses the phone as an LCD screen and there is an app for more advanced controls. The camera can be up to 10' away from the camera.

Can't say it holds any attraction for me.

They already exist and have for years. The first one I had dates back to about 1990...

Like some kind of expanding fold-out screen? Sure, why not. I am certain there will be some interesting technical developments related to electronic display screens in the coming years. Which should have at least some impact on camera design.

They showed a very thin TV screen at CES that rolls up when not in use.

The time has come already. For example, check the Olympus Air. A small round tube the size of a lens. Operated by WiFi with a smart phone that provides the LCD that is larger than the camera.

Is this question for real? How can a camera be smaller than a sensor of the sensor is part of the camera?

And now the insult:

I think this a subject for Chris T...

(reference to insult)
I am going to insult you.... img src="https://sta... (show quote)

The question was about the LCD, not the sensor.

The Chris T insult was uncalled for.

In my previous post, I answered the question in the past affirmative (in other words, such camera already exists).

It's already here, a smartphone is a camera amongst other things, as are most laptops. Technology and form factors are changing, perhaps we need to adapt, like the Borg.

Where would you like your implant?

Insulting Chris T is always called for (as long as he continues doing what he’s doing). Once he stops I’ll stop. Until then it’s No Filter Friday...game on.

Since they can now make lcd screens on bendable material why not a screen that pulls out of the camera like a home movie screen being pulled down for a home super8 movie. Or maybe wrapped around a long lens with a tiny camera at the end of the lens. Both have probably already been patented.

The question is for real as I suddenly thought of a way to do just that.
Well is a deep subject and I don't think Chris T can handle it.

I think Doctor Who has a camera that is smaller on the outside than the inside. Oh wait, that's his Tardis. Never mind.
