Another attempt: The Nikon Df.

I saw that but I'm a Canon guy, been one for over 40 years now. Thanks anyhow it may help some other folks though.

It won't help any folks. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think anybody who bought the Df did it because of a recommendation from others.

Personally I would jump at the opportunity to purchase a DSLR without video, wi-fi and all the other features that make them so blasted expensive. All many photographers need is a camera. All the other technology just adds a lot of cost which I would rather put in lenses. Give me a DSLR that takes photos and photos only. I can get all the other technology, if I want it, from a myriad of other products. I really believe there is a huge market for this and average folks will flock to it because of the practicality and lower cost. This probably won't happen but I can dream can't I?

I do expect some day one can buy a brand new D850 for less than a brand new Df. The Df was introduced Nov 2013 and its price has always been $2746. The D810 was introduced July 2014 at $3299. During the sales last spring (spring 2017) one could get the D810 for $2499.

My response was triggered by the expressed want for a no frills, simple camera. The Df, more than others, fits that description.
I did not suggest anybody run out and buy one because the camera is so wonderful for the money.

Price point is similar to other entry level full frame camera???? The Df price much higher than the D610, D750. It's only $50 less than the D810 and at one time the D810 was selling for less than it. There won't be a camera like D3200 is asking because D3200 wanted to save money by having less features. That won't happen. With the Df you have to pay more to have less which I am happy to do.

I stand corrected. You are right. The price point is closer the price of a Mid-range full frame, such as the D810.

Frankly, I’m beyond tired of reading about Canon and Nike, period! Seems to me that on the “general” page of UHH, the discussion should be limited to general topics. You Canon and Nikon folks should take your discussions to the mfg specific pages.

????? I haven't seen anyone advocating for a specific brand on this thread. Rather, posters have attempted to answer the OP's question. That's kind of the point, I believe. The OP mentioned a specific camera, and wasn't advocating for a brand. By the way, Nike is a shoe brand, not a camera manufacturer.

That is why I still use my D3. Yes, it is a little long in the tooth technology wise but still an exceptional camera without all the video features that I would never use!

That's really an excellent idea - a camera that does nothing but take beautiful and affordable still pictures! Isn't that why the old brownie cameras were so popular for such a long time?

Yes, just give me a digital Nikon FM. Nicest, most affordable, simplest to use, compact, sturdy. I still have it. It still works - even without a battery! Just stick an FF sensor in it, and let me use all my old but good manual focus lenses on it. Leave the split prism manual focus screen just as it was - it worked just fine. and the manual metering - worked fine too - nice big needle on the left side of the screen. Just stick an ISO dial on it. Why won't someone make these? Why wouldn't they sell? Are we evolved to such a helpless state that we need to have everything done robotically for us?

The Df is the camera you describe.
And it sold.

I love my FM2. The desire for retro explains the popularity of Fuji x cameras—along with some excellent glass. Heck, I can even use a threaded cable release....

Or exercise some personal choice and don’t read it.

That works for me.

Yes, I am looking at my FM next to my Fuji XT-2 the Fuji is a taller somewhat chunkier fellow, yet has a sibling look to it. If they could slim him down to the same size as FM and get rid of the movies and a lot of the other paraphenalia = the junk I never want to use, and give me a really GOOD split prism focus (but keep the articulating LCD - I LOVE that for low shots) I would have the camera of my dreams.
