I use this: https://www.resellerratings.com/
It usually works great. Gives you personal ratings.

Doyle: Yup. Those 2 are good. I like NewEgg. They are ALL BUSINESS! Great deals and free shipping on larger buys.
I just ran 42nd st. Photo in ResellerRatings and it had an unusually HIGH rating. Can you say "Shill"?

I remember that store when I first started buying my 35mm Nikon gear. Switch & Bait, Price changing, Grey market, Etc. It will make your head hurt!
They answer the phone with a snappy remark "Whadda you want"? Like they have no time for you.

I recently bought a lens from them I am returning. They advertised as tamron but never mentioned it was grey market.

Are grey market products made to a lower standard???

Nikon gray market is not, BUT, gray market products will not be serviced by Nikonusa. If you want warranty work done on gray market Nikon products you will have to send the Nikon product to the country of origin. If the Nikon product came from Vietnam for instance, you will have to send it back to Nikon Vietnam for warranty service.
Of course there are many repair companies you can find in the US that will repair your Nikon product but if you want it done under warranty then you must send it to the country of origin.
If, on the other hand, you bought a Nikonusa product (a non-gray market product), it would be repaired at one of two authorized Nikonusa repair places, free of charge as long as it is under warranty and you supply a copy of the original sales receipt.

I too got sucked in by 42nd Street's cheap prices when I was getting started but quickly learned that they will rip you off. I bought what is supposed to be a Cannon lens but it takes crummy pictures in comparison to three lenses I bought directly from Canon or Adorama (I do recommend Adorama and B&H), so I think that lens that was supposed to be a Cannon lens is a knock-off, or used and not refurbished. The 2nd and last time I purchased from 42nd Street was a Canon Tele-Extender that was the gray/white color Canon makes some of their lenses but the similarity stopped there. It didn't even have the Canon name on it, furthermore it did not make a snug fit when mounted between a camera body and lens, it wobbled so I quickly disconnected it and never mounted it again, and have never used it. They charged $2,999.00 for it and refused the return when I sent it back, but fortunately the evidence was overwhelming that it had been a bait-and-switch, that they had sold it as a Canon product that it clearly was not, and my bank card reversed the charge. Proof of that it is a piece of junk lies in the fact that after the charge was reversed 42nd Street didn't even want the Tele-Extender back. The only thing you will get from 42nd Street is an expensive paperweight, which is all I use their Tele-Extender for. Any good reviews you have seen about 42nd Street are probably from the guy at 42nd Street who will get very nasty on the phone if you want to return something. They ignore the return policy they have posted on their web site, they will not let you return anything. My advice, stay away. Go to Adorama, B&H, or any of a number of good sites recommended by regulars in UH>

I would recommend them. I bought a Tamron 160-500 G2 lens from them. No problems whatsoever. They sold me what I wanted, and Tamron confirmed the 6-year warranty. And their price was less expensive than everyone else. And I bought it from Amazon so I was able to finance it via PayPal Credit for 24 months at no interest! It was a win-win-win-win-win-win transaction.

I've shopped there years ago 1988 or so but have always shopped in person and found them helpful and great prices. However, that was before the use of the internet.

Now searching is done easily.

You shopped there in 1988?? Maybe you shopped at 47th Street Photo (and now out of business). Different bunch of people. I’ve heard nothing but bad reviews from 42nd Street Photo.

The name 47th street camera was once well trusted. Current owner/management must be viewed skeptically.

And it seems that naming the present company 42nd St. in hopes of taking advantage of the good will 47th St. had works - it fooled some of the people who posted here.
