I have a Sony A7r and love to use it with manual focus lenses. That is very easy to do, fast and accurate once the camera is set. And adapters dirt cheap. But when it comes to adapters to work with autofocus, metering and auto aperture I have not seen anything interesting. Only a few reviews where cameras stop working. I would not want to test such an adapter.

If you really need the autofocus and auto aperture on your lenses and I guess you use them for BIF and other wildlife photography mostly then the D850 is the best choice. If your high end lenses were Canon it would be a different thing. Most Canon lenses seem to work from well to better than on Canon when adapted to Sony E mount cameras with autofocus adapters.

But honestly I think you will be better off financially by getting the D850 for those lenses than if you try to sell them and get something else instead. Or wait and see if somoeone will make a good adapter for those lenses soon. I think there is some work going on in that area.

Thank you. This is the feedback I am looking for.

Read this article. It may help. http://briansmith.com/where-are-the-nikon-af-lens-adapters/

But if you decide on trying an adapter I would recommend you contact Brian Smith first. He has been keeping a good watch on the development and as the first AF/AA adapters for Nikon lenses on Sony E mount cameras were a disaster more or less I would be careful and consult with those who have the most knowledge. You have too expensive camera and lenses to play with if the adapters are troublesome.

Brian Smith's website has a great deal of info on Sony adapters: http://briansmith.com/sony-a7-a7r-lens-mount-adapters/. I suggest reading his article. It sounds like there is only one manufacturer that makes an adapter that communicates reasonably well between the camera and the lens and allows you to use most of the camera's functions. This is the Commlite CM-ENF-E1 PRO V06 Lens Mount Adapter for Nikon F Lens to Sony E-mount which may be found on Ebay at https://www.ebay.com/itm/Commlite-CM-ENF-E1-PRO-V06-Lens-Mount-Adapter-for-Nikon-F-Lens-to-Sony-E-mount/201924172320?hash=item2f039e5a20:g:ZW8AAOSw3mpXGetC.

Here is a video testing this Commlite adapter that Mike Schwartz mentioned. The tester claims this to be the best option for adapting Nikon lenses to Sony but the test also shows the adapter to have some serious limitations. But the good thing is that maybe it can be made better with firmware updates. http://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=488&v=cYqovWVBk7U

And here is the adapter on the manufacturer website. Actually not much info about if it will work with your lenses, only one of them covered in the compatability list. http://www.commlite.com/product/8.html

I don't believe most of them can make use of the Auto Focus or the Vibration Reduction on the lens. I think one company, Commlite, does but it has iffy results according to what I've read. I have the FotodioX. I works well. You can use focus peaking for focusing and it work pretty well with my A6000. I still prefer using my Nikon cameras.
Also, It has been reported that some of the ones that control focus and VR have damaged the Sony cameras and they needed repair. I has been on documented on YouTube.

I have searched older posts and would be interested in any newer experience and advice in this topic.

I have most of the Nikon pro lenses up to 400mm f/2.8. I have just replaced my Sony A7R2 with an A7R3 and am liking it a lot more than the 2. I also bought the Sony 16-35, 24-70 and 20-200 f/2.8 lenses. I would like to be able to use my other pro Nikon lenses on the Sony but question if the available converters are any good and which ones would be my best solution.

I recently read an article on Petapixel about the Canon 200 f/2.0 and the A7R3 but it did not mention Nikon.

Experienced opinions are welcome and what I am looking for.
Thanks all.

Commlite Adaptor. I have used both the Metabones and the Commlite adaptors for Canon EF to E mount. Both worked very well but I only use manual focus. Also I am not sure if the Nikon version has been released for sale. See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZrPdkoeIX0
