I have searched older posts and would be interested in any newer experience and advice in this topic.

I have most of the Nikon pro lenses up to 400mm f/2.8. I have just replaced my Sony A7R2 with an A7R3 and am liking it a lot more than the 2. I also bought the Sony 16-35, 24-70 and 20-200 f/2.8 lenses. I would like to be able to use my other pro Nikon lenses on the Sony but question if the available converters are any good and which ones would be my best solution.

I recently read an article on Petapixel about the Canon 200 f/2.0 and the A7R3 but it did not mention Nikon.

Experienced opinions are welcome and what I am looking for.
Thanks all.
RL

This would be the Cadillac of the converters

For that price, I'd rather buy a Sony lens, or two. Sure, it would be more expensive, but it would be a single lens attached to the camera - a lens made to work with the camera.

Thanks Allen for your reply. If I read this correctly, it lacks auto focus and auto aperture? Do we know if there are any with AF AA that are any good?

He has a 400 f/2.8. Have you priced those? Of course the Sony designed lens would be preferable, but the OPs situation begs for an alternative solution.

I would typically agree with you, however I have some pretty expensive glass that Sony does not make, ie 200 f/2, 300 f/2.8 AF-VR2, 400 f/2.8. Even if they did, I would not like to spend the $ to replace them and would love to be able to use the ones I have.

This speed booster is for crop sensors or FF in crop mode. It should be great for the A6500, but not for the A7Riii.

Which seems to be using cameras the lenses were designed for.

Mirroless is not a Ford/Chevy thing. It is a more a Tesla/Porsche thing where the drivetrains are not at all related.

I am using the K&F Concept adapter on my Sony a6000: https://www.amazon.com/Mount-Adapter-Concept-mount-Camera/dp/B06WVNLVC1/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1515334905&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=K%26F+concept+nikon+to+sony+e&psc=1

I bought it direct from China via eBay, it arrived within 2 weeks. I am quite satisfied with it and the build quality is excellent for the price. It has an aperture ring for Nikon lenses that don't have external aperture control (Nikon-G lenses.) The adapter has a nice snug fit.

Probably your best choice would be to get a Nikon D850 body to use with those lenses if you need autofocus and auto aperture.

You are probably 100% correct! I wish I had spoken with you before buying all of the Sony stuff.

I have a Sony A7r and love to use it with manual focus lenses. That is very easy to do, fast and accurate once the camera is set. And adapters dirt cheap. But when it comes to adapters to work with autofocus, metering and auto aperture I have not seen anything interesting. Only a few reviews where cameras stop working. I would not want to test such an adapter.

If you really need the autofocus and auto aperture on your lenses and I guess you use them for BIF and other wildlife photography mostly then the D850 is the best choice. If your high end lenses were Canon it would be a different thing. Most Canon lenses seem to work from well to better than on Canon when adapted to Sony E mount cameras with autofocus adapters.

But honestly I think you will be better off financially by getting the D850 for those lenses than if you try to sell them and get something else instead. Or wait and see if somoeone will make a good adapter for those lenses soon. I think there is some work going on in that area.
