Scary stuff! Thanks for the warning. I will look at other sites. Was wanting a Nikon 3400 kit, but with a 70-300 VR instead of the standard that comes with the kit, 42Street has just the body and 18-55 and advertise a great price on the VR zoom

Try building your own virtual 'perfect kit' and see if you can shop for the parts separately, or get the simplest bundle and add to it. Consider refurbished or used from reliable sources.

Avoid 42nd Street Photo Shop. I repeat, avoid 42nd Street Photo Shop.

I can honestly say, I have purchased several different times from them, the last time was a new Nikon D610 and the Nikon 200-500mm lens from them. When I asked the salesman if they were grey market items, he unhesitantly responded that they were....did not try to deceive me. I still made the purchase, shot with them for several years, did not have one ounce of problems with either of them. Plus, I never experienced the "bait and switch" comeon that I have seen others post about them. So, I am not trying to convonce ANYONE that they should purchase from 42nd Street, just responding to your post. Would I purchase from them again, absolutely.

You would seriously recommend a company based on doing business with them 30 years ago? You are probably thinking of 47th St. Photo, which was a good company back then. 42nd St. Photo probably used that name hoping people who remember 47th St. would think is the same company.

Another very reputable photo store that rarely gets mentioned is Unique Photo in New Jersey.

Another website that I have used is Greentoe.com - you put in a realistic bid for the item and they try to find a LEGIT Authorized dealer who will accept your offer. Sometimes your offer is accepted, sometimes you get a counter offer to either accept or decline.

I would do a lot more research on them as they are the king of "bait and switch".

Been "Baited & switched" by them many years ago. NOT getting taken again!

I had a bad experience attempting to get them to honor a quoted price more than ten years ago. My recollection is that they wouldn't let me buy the camera in question without an additional, expensive 'warranty'. I think it was illegal, but I did not have the time or energy to complain, and to whom? Now I have the Internet to warn you.

If I were in your position I would stay away.

If you enjoy seeing one offer, and then ordering that camera and being told it is not in stock, if you think you enjoy being charged for the "battery package" < hint most legitimate sellers of course include a battery with the camera. If you enjoy possibly being told that low, low price is only offered if you purchase the "camera protection or extended warranty option. If you enjoy getting your card billed even though the item is not in stock as soon as you place your order vs having your card charged when the item is in stock and shipping, if you love having a vendor squander you camera budget dollars, go ahead right click. If you do not love misery then order from the time honored sites, Adorama, B&H, Amazon.

I won’t do business with them again. They called me after the sale, wanted to upsell me and lied regarding their offer. I’m sticking with B&H, even if they are higher.

I personally have no experience with "42 Street". My grandson just bought the D3400, I personally have the D3300 and find it very adequate for myself as a beginner and was bought as a used DSLR, works fine. $375.00. Next concentrated on purchase of lens, 2 Prime and 1 Zoom lens. A Speedlight flash with off Camera triggers. Hope you find what you need, do research.
