I would appreciate input from those using the new Tamron 18 to 400 lens. I have read reviews but would like some reviews from members. I would be using it on the D500 for some wild life photos as I have not previously done that venue.
Thanks

I have it for my Canon 80D and it is a very good lens. You will have to go with a pro lens to get better performance.

How fussy are you about image quality? It’s a 22x lens. I wouldn’t expect it to produce “high” quality images. And how much speed are you going to need for wildlife shooting?

It probably is. So long as you are not expecting higher quality images from it.

I hope you get responses from persons who actually have experience with this lens rather than those who are just guessing what you might get and that they clearly identify which they are.

Thanks, I wasn’t sure about quality that’s why looking for actual user experience. I want good quality but can’t afford a $2000 lens now.

Are you wanting professional quality, or just good enough for memorable prints, etc. it very well may be more than sufficient for what you need. For wildlife, etc, you may find it to bee too slow?

I have had mine for some six weeks now and took it to Florida on holiday. I am pleased with the performance with my Canon 650D. Some links to see some shots with it. Please download to see the better quality pics.

I am using this lens on a Canon 80D and am perfectly happy, light weight and good image quality for the price. No problems with it at all.

I used this on a Nikon d5300 for about two weeks. Image quality was generally good and I was pleased with it enough to make it my walk-around lens. However, when you use it at 400mm and lower light situations the image quality falls off a bit. It is still acceptable, but you may have to boost ISO to get the shutter speed you want, resulting in more noise.

During the second week of use it developed a focus-hunt issue. I was doing just as I had done the prior week - just looking to get some images of birds in the midst of leaves in some trees about 25-30 feet away. There was good contrast and some bird movement, so the AF should have keyed in on the birds as it always did. This time, and for multiples times thereafter, it would almost focus on the bird, and then it would hunt in and out multiple times without ever gaining focus. The only way I could solve it was to abandon that shot, AF on a item in the far distance (over 100 feet), and then come back to my original intended shot. Most of the time this cured the issue - until it happened again and again. You may want to see if this is an ongoing problem or if I just happened to get a bad lens.

Hope this helps.
