Yes. There are good lens from tamron, sigma and others. I work for newspaper, magazines,ECT and need consistent image quality and durability of my hardware. I had a Nikon d700 with over 450,000 shutter counts. On average week I'll shoot 1000 or more pictures
I have a number of Tamron and a couple of Tokina lenses and several had front or back focus problems. I sent them to their respective repair centers, and didn't have to wait too long, and all the lenses I sent in came back spot on. With a 24 mega pixel camera you will see the soft focus more easily. Try focusing using live view which takes the phase focus system out of the equation and with it the front or back focus issue, to determine if it's just a soft lens at 2.8.
I bought the model before the G2, a razor sharp copy with brilliant V.R. A year on the focus ring rotates beyond the hard stops which in turn gives you an error message. I believe it's an expensive fix and the second time I have heard of this problem. I will miss this lens but not be risking an unhappy future with a repaired lens, As much as I miss the V.R I,m back with a used 24 70 series 1 canon. I was hoping the G2 would be faultless as I would consider it later down the track so to me this is an interesting post
My copy of the Tamron 24-70/2.8 G2 is beautiful. Could not be happier with it. Fast focus and adorable sharp images. Sorry to hear about your experience.
No problem with the Tamron 24-70
If I am not mistaken the D7200 has a micro focus adjustment that you can make to a specific lens.
On both my Canon 70D and my 5D mk 4 my 24-70 f2.8 L Canon lens was soft focusing. I did a micro focus on the lens and all is well. You can find instructions for doing the micro focus on line and instructions should also be in your owner's manual.
