I would suggest the OP buy a (2) pack of Wasabi's for $25.00 and compare them to the Nikons. Alternate and charge them equally.

You would think so but now I'm not sure. Nikon OEM batteries are third party with the Nikon name. Check your warranty.

With the D850 warranty card, the ONLY mention of batteries (in tiny print that requires a magnifier):

....limitations and exclusions:
4. This warranty shall not apply to any batteries.

I have used off brand batteries with no problems.

This debate will go on forever, regarding third party batteries vs OEM batteries. Buy what meets your expectations. Simple as that.

I have always felt that MY Camera battery should be from the original manufacturer, the "Off-Brands" being "Risky", so I have bought in the past an extra ENEL14A Nikon Battery for my Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera. I would like other thoughts and opinions on my thinking.
Are the "Off-Brands" SAFE to use in my Nikon D3300 Camera.??

I had four batteries for my D 5300 and only one was the original Nikon battery and they all worked well

Silverman ... Nikon uses the same EN-EL14a battery for ALL their DSLR cameras, below the Prosumer (D7000) range. It is a fairly light battery, and quite modestly priced, too. For that reason, I've seen no reason to go with alternate manufacturer's batteries. I have six of them (one for each, and one back-up) ... never had any problems with any of them. Don't think you can go wrong with OEM batteries - buy them ... use them ....

However, if you should ever upgrade to a D-lens capable Nikon camera (D lenses won't work on the D3000/D5000 series Nikons) ... do consider going with third party batteries for those DX cameras - D7000/D7100/D7200/D7500 ... you will find significant savings offered (over the EN-EL5) ... and, since you need at least one back-up battery for every camera you use ... the $60 that the EN-EL5 costs - will increase pretty significantly when buying OEMs. So, do take the other route.

Remember, the D3000 Series and D5000 series lack the screw which allows AF with D lenses. So if you should buy any of the much cheaper D lenses, you're plumb outta luck - with a D3000 series camera (and a D5000 series camera.) At that point, you may want to upgrade to a D7000 series Nikon DSLR. When you do - look around for cheaper alternatives to the EN-EL5 ... can't hurt ... but with the D3300 ... continue to use the OEM battery ... makes much more sense ....

I use Power 2000. No problem.......I just make sure I get the correct voltage and mah.

Here is a good review article on a couple of batteries......https://photographylife.com/reviews/third-party-batteries-watson-and-wasabi

I've been using Wasabi batteries for years and have never had any issues. Have 3 Canon bodies with grips and they work well with all of them. Date my batteries when I receive them, depending on use usually replace them every 18-24 months. If you are a heavy user I would suggest replacing them every 12 months regardless of brand. Using Wasabi this becomes reasonable. Realize many here have been using batteries much longer with good results but I'd rather use a fresh set at $25.00 than using name brand at $120.00 a set and MAYBE getting an extra year out of them...

$120 a set ????

For the EN-EL14a for the D5000 Series and D3000 series???

Or, is that a typo, Maniac? ... The EN-EL14a costs $19.95 !!!!!!

For the lesser Nikons, I recommend going with the OEM product. For upper class Nikons - where the battery is a minimum of sixty bucks - look elsewhere!!!!

Depends on which “off-brand” you use.

Answer above is nonsense. The printing on the outside does not enhance battery life.

The manufacturer of the battery absolutely does. 3rd party batteries may provide great service for 6 months to a year, then the charge life falls off a cliff, or it will not hold charge with extreme cold. I have got Nikon OEM batteries that are 4year old and provide excellent service.

I only have one 3rd party battery for my Nikons. It is a Watson that came free from B&H with a D4s. I rotate the 2 and have not noticed any difference. The camera is a few years old, but not sure exactly.

For my other bodies I use battery grips with Eneloop rechargeable AAs. I have OEM backup batteries for the bodies, but with the cameras set to use the grip batteries first I rarely have to charge the OEMs.

For Sony and Panasonic I did get Wasabi batteries because I wanted the chargers. One out of four swelled. I emailed the distributor and had a new one in 2 days. No more problems in over a year.

Of all these I believe the AAs in the grips is the best option.
