which telephoto will be good for this body, and macro

If you bought the kit, the 24-120mm that came with it is a very good lens. If not, it depends on what you prefer to shoot. For wildlife i like the Nikon 200-500mm, for an all around lens, i like the 24-120mm. For macro i use the Nikon 105mm micro lens. One choice you may like is to rent a lens before you buy and see if it will fulfill your needs and desires. Enjoy and have fun.

I would also recommend the previous suggestions regarding the 28-300MM lens. It will be slightly heavy. To me, the lens is wide enough and the reach is sufficient. If you want a wider lens stitch two photos together in post editing. My $0.02 is this is a very good all-purpose lens.

The 300mm f/2.8 is one of the best. Get a set of TCs for even more reach (it's great with all three, 1.4x, 1.7x, 2.0x)

The 105mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor is very good, but the 200mm is even better.

But the 200mm is big $$$ if I recall.

Yes, I have the D750 and Darryl Young's book on the D750 is excellent . I am glad I have it since the owner's manual is useless.

Welcome to Ugly! I have two D750s so I agree with your choice of cameras. I am now enjoying my new Tamron 100-400 f/4.5-6.3 lens. It is very sharp and the stabilization is also excellent. Mine was spot on right out of the box. For $800 you can’t beat it and it feels much lighter than it’s 39.2 ozs. It’s reviews are superior to the new Sigma 100-400 (not an Art lense) and I am a fan of Sigma Art lenses in that I use the Sigma 24-105 A f/4 for travel. I used my Nikon DX lens for travel with a D7100 for three years and loved it. I still have it. I found it to be ideal for New Zealand and South America. The 28-300 will save you from toting a bag full of lenses but it is not as sharp as lenses with a lower multiple and you may miss not having a lower f stop. I now find that a 24mm starting range seems to work better for me with interior and cityscapes than the 28mm but the 28-300 will certainly be a versatile lense with acceptable performance. Good luck with your new D750 and have a wonderful holiday.

I bought a D750 a few years ago and bought a Nikon FX 28-300 zoom and recently bought Nikon 105 macro. The lens I keep on it, is the kit lens that came with it, the Nikon 24-120.

Hi,
Merry Christmas and congrats! I have a D750 and love it. I hope you bought the 24 - 120 f4 "kit lens". I almost did not, but decided at the last minute it could back-up the Nikon 28 - 300 lens that use for travel. My kit lens sat in it's box for year until I needed something faster for an important family event which took place over a number of days in daylight, indoor light and dim evening light. No tripod and 60% candids. Rarely could use flash. So almost bought a 24 - 70 f2.8, but tried the kit first. Very happy with results. Use it a lot now. Cheap as a kit.

For most travel, I'm happy with the Nikon 28 - 300. I also have a Nikon 105 f2.8 for macro which I like and a Tamron 150 - 600 that works well for wildlife.
Good luck,
Don

When I shot nikon, I used the 200mm macro. It is one of the best I have ever used. The longer focal length is especially good for photographing insects. With the longer focal length you don't need to get so close to the bugs, so you don't frighten so many that they fly off.

We must be related. I used FTb’s until 2008. Now I have a D750 and love it. For telephotos I started with the 70-300 f4.5-5.6 and now have the 70-200 f2.8 G, which is expensive, heavy, and awesome - worth it. For travel I use my favorite lens, the 24-70 f2.8 at least 85% of the time, with the 70-300 when I need more reach. Everyone is different, and I enjoyed the previous posts. I bought the Fotodiox adapter so I can play with my FD lenses on the D750, but haven’t found a situation when I can’t do better with my Nikkor lenses - maybe some day.

The Nikon 28-300 mm is an all purpose lens. My Macro choice is Nikon 105 f1.4 micro. It is a great portrait lens also

Costs less than the camera body. And you get great working distance. Get the f/4 version...don't need fast with macro.

I just wish it did not have one of those anti-aliasing filters.

If you wait I am sure the 760 will not have the filter.
