I came up with this idea after returning from a nice meal and a couple of beers at the local pub. I only turned the head light on during the exposures, the rest of the time I walked around in the dark.

The ultimate irony, there, huh, Dennis?

You buy a headlight, so you can see in the dark ... and then have this fantastic idea ... which, ultimately, makes you walk around in the dark, W/O even using it!!!

You must have been buzzed, a little - from those beers, and the meal ....

Still ... AMAZING idea, Dennis ....

Please submit an example, if you can, and fill in some data on it .... Would you do something like that again, or no?

Thanks, Chris! This was my first (and only) attempt at astrophotography. Kit zoom at 18mm, f/5.6, 15 seconds. I would really like to try again with my new D750, but I keep opting for bed over driving out to the boondocks in the middle of the night...

Longest was Ecktachrome slide of night sky at Polihale state park, Kauai, Hawaii. Maybe the darkest place I’ve seen. It is unscanned as is a shot of Glacier peak Washington. Both in the 3 hour range. The attached is 30 sec

Think you blew the attachment, Clint ....

Wanna try again?

Would I do that again, yes but with my 4x5, I no longer own the 8x10. A photo like this takes about 2hr to set up shoot and take down. Then, 2-3 hr darkroom work. Ah, the bad old days.

A lotta work, that, huh, Pilot?

But worth every minute - I'd say!

Don't have the exact exposure time but it was in the eight to ten minute range. Cumberland Falls at night. Canon 5DmII 28-135mm lens at 75mm. And yes, I would do it again.

This is gorgeous, R ... neat job you did ...

The 3 hour one was with my RB67.
In the studio for macro with the 4x5, the exposures are generally 1/4 sec to 2sec.
The portraits on my website are 8 minute exposures.
The night scenes range 2-8 minutes

I use my the stopwatch app on my phone as a timer.

Oh, I see, Kris ... thanks for filling me in ....

Now, this is interesting, Chi ... is the long exposure responsible for the color changes, here?

What I'm seeing is a two-tone car, with a dark green bottom, and a dark blue top ... which is also shared by the buildings in the background ...

Am I seeing true colors, Chi ... or is the long exposure changing the colors I'm seeing?

my best guess is the light variation is due to the fact that a couple cars drove past on the road behind it causing slight variation in lighting due to headlights even though the vehicles didn't show in the shot.
maybe someone a little more knowledgeable in long exposure can clarify this for us both.
