Please submit an example, if you can, and fill in some data on it .... Would you do something like that again, or no?

About 15-20 min, star trails attempt in Utah, same night and the same spot like my milky way shots.
The result was nothing to write home about, maybe it's still somewhere in my computer.
I'll post it if I find it...

Found it
Here is one over 12 min + Noise reduction which takes same time.

I used a 500MM F 4.5 Pentax Takumar telephoto lens mounted to a screw thread Fujica body. Mounted the monster on a tripod, aimed it at Orion, Opened the shutter (on bulb) and walked away for about 20 or so minutes. I used Kodachrome 64. I set my field of view so the stars moved from upper left to lower right, causing star trails. The exposure showed the more or less true colors of these stars. This was around 1975 or so. (Photo unavailable).

Sure, Paulie ... love to see it ...

Oh, neat, Paulie ... that was quick, huh?

So, was it closer to 15 mins, or closer to 20 mins?

I added it to my first comment.

Yes, I would do it again, but I would definitely try to find a spot with less distractions and lowest light pollution possible.
I would also do more test shots so the result is closer to what I want it to be = clean.
I guess I should ask someone experienced how to do it. In the field AND PP.

Torch ... you mean you used a 500mm lens from a Pentax 6x7 and put it on a Fujica 690? ... 1975, huh? ... What? ... Has it gone the way of the Stardust, now?

this particular one is 12 min exposure + 12 min noise reduction = over 24 min total.
By the time you do 3 or 4 test shots it is almost 3AM so I just stopped trying..

In the film days, a minute and a half transparency. I never scanned it to digital. Obviously done with tripod and cable release.

Handheld is 4 seconds. It didn't produce the feel I wanted. So I deleted it and shot four more at 2 seconds. They produced more of what I was looking for - the hussel and bussel in the Dusseldorf train station.

Not very long, probably about ten seconds - traffic at night.
