Besides, as soon as you buy it - it's old! Good words by OP. Thanks.
Actually if you buy right who cares. My personal favorites are the Zeiss Planar T* ZF.2 manual focus lenses. Talk about old as soon as you buy it, MANUAL FOCUS, I mean, COME ON MAN. But the results are spectacular, so I could care less. And it is only old if you don't use your purchases.

Me, too. I still shoot my 1969 Nikon F and the two dozen film Nikons I have acquired since.

Great rant. But by the same token, the Commandment, “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s photographic equipment,” should also merit thought.

I too shoot film exclusively. Personally and professionally. As most of you know, it’s our personal vision and technical skills that make a memorable image. No need to upgrade with the advent of every new camera, lens or cell phone. It is WE that make the images. Vision will always trump technology.

In general I agree, but there are exceptions in the digital world. There were some low light gyms that my D-200 could only shoot with a 1.4 lens wide open to stop action & the DOF was unusable. My D-500 is a different story.

Just a rant! I don't understand some why people want to steal the joy of other people when they talk about the new or old piece of camera gear they purchased. If it was a older camera boded or an older lens maybe it was all the person could afford to get into photography. I think as a group of people interested in photography we should help people instead of making them feel bad about their equipment. Help them get the most out of what they have, to point out the best aspect of the lens or camera. How to set it up to get the best performance from what they have.
Lets be kind to people you never now how your word affect someone.

They aren't talking about the gear. They aren't talking about photography. They're just posting about shopping. Sometimes, it hasn't even been delivered; they're still waiting for it. So what's the discussion? If they were looking for buying advice, that would be pertinent. But they already made the decision to buy. And they aren't adding any information about what they bought or how they are using it, or asking advice on how to use it. Nope, just "bragging" about buying something.
This forum is "Main Photography Discussion".
And... if I'm bragging about buying some new piece of gear, I am definitely not thinking about how someone who can't afford that gear is affected. But then, that's the whole issue with bragging.
Wow, you are sensitive. Somebody doesn't like your equipment and your feelings are hurt?

Funny. You say why can't we get along. Then yell at people and call them tree huggers. Maybe, a little less sobriety will calm you.

wow do not know how my reply ended up inside your original post here is the part I wrote sorry for the error it ended up included in the quote section of the origianl posters message. I buy used even though GAS is pushing for the new latest greatest, a well cared for used/refurbished older version does the job I need it to do. I like to watch the excitement of getting a package by others Christmas is hard for many I spent many holidays away from my family first in the service then as a truck driver it taught me to realize the true meaning of Christmas and other holidays is not the gifts we get but the love and affection from those we love. My kids also learned from this as we give only special gifts such as handmade photo collages of our life homemade goodies etc., we do give young grandkids a small present and that suffices and also never heard any complaints from them as they are happy with what they get as it is secondary to spending time with one another. I do hope each and everyone on the hog has a wonderful Christmas wherever they may be.

I shoot a great deal of film. At times, I wish I had the discipline to stick to film exclusively. It would be much less expensive, though I have decided to stick with the digital cameras I have, as they do what I need, for when digital is appropriate for the task.
I find that when I shoot film, I am better able to focus on the task of making a good photograph. It is mostly a hobby for me, and I enjoy using a manual camera and the process of thinking about proper exposure, lighting and framing. In the rare case when someone asks me to shoot an event for them, I switch to digital, with two card slot cameras, etc.
There’s no right or wrong. Do whatever works for you. Whatever serves your purpose.
