Just a rant! I don't understand some why people want to steal the joy of other people when they talk about the new or old piece of camera gear they purchased. If it was a older camera boded or an older lens maybe it was all the person could afford to get into photography. I think as a group of people interested in photography we should help people instead of making them feel bad about their equipment. Help them get the most out of what they have, to point out the best aspect of the lens or camera. How to set it up to get the best performance from what they have.

I agree totally; there are too many in this forum that just like to be jerks and complain about a post instead of helping. If you do not have anything good to say, then just do not say anything. Skip the post and go to the next one. After all, isn't the main purpose of this group is to Help each other?
Shoot with whatever you have. If your vision and skill are sufficient, you will produce high quality, professional caliber images.

My eyes are old, and if you used a paragraph here & there, I would find your posts to be more readable.

This is how some conversations go!
I'm new to photography and just got a Canon 20d/Nikon d50 and a kit lens.
I want to become a wedding photographer. How much should I charge?
Should we try and educate him, or tell him how to find victims?!?!
Some people are born liars and can just gush the lies. Some actually have a conscience. This isn't the Make-a-Wish foundation!!!!!
What do you think of thems apples?! LoL

The kind of attitude you speak of is the very reason I left this group years ago. Now that I have returned I
have not witnessed this action as ye and I'm very pleased for it. Yes, many of us purchase only what we
can afford and try to make the best of it. It would be good to know . in many cases, if what we are looking
at is junk or a good deal and we could ask about it without the fear of belittlement.
Here's an idea: If someone could put together a list of all camera bodies and lenses ( and for now just make
it relevant to the top four or so camera and lens makers beginning at the state of the Auto Focus era. Just
a list. Then members can, at their leisure, view the list and make objective comments about a camera or
lens they know something about. Then, those of us who have a need to know can look for it and possibly
find what they need to know and adverse remarks remain at a minimum.
That is a great idea. That way people could have a good idea what kind of quality their money could buy. Maybe the list could be broken down to category like general photography, action/sports, and so on. then people could look in their area of interest.

People post here for comments. 99% of the questions asked on this site can be answered by a simple Google search. So, why then do people come here to ask questions? That is a good question, I cannot answer it. But, the point is if you ask 20 people the same question, you will get 20 different responses. Some are helpful, others are not, but even the negative ones have some merit because they express an opinion. And that is exactly why people post here, they want others opinions. Most rational people can sort through the various responses and find what they came looking for. OR, they could also do a google search and find the answer there too.

I agree that there is nothing wrong with posting negative feedback or contrary opinions, but comments should focus on the substance of the topic, IMHO, and avoid the occasional personal attacks. The latter are never constructive for the OP, and are better suited for other forums where nastiness is expected (and considered part of the entertainment).
Often it is more the tone in which an opposing view is voiced that is offensive and detracts from the dialogue (and maybe that is sometimes unintentional). This is particularly egregious when a newbie asks a question that is very basic or has been aired in older threads. There are respectful, welcoming ways to deal with those questions -- the snarky ones just put the UHH forum in a bad light. Fortunately, it is relatively few UHH members who tend to attack -- the vast majority are positive and earnestly want to help.
Google searches are instructive, as billnikon suggests, and often the best place to start. But bouncing ideas off this group's members and soliciting their opinions are also useful, especially when differing views are expressed, or when the OPs are confused or just trying to get their bearings. Some experienced members can also help by steering OPs to the most relevant or productive Internet sites, saving the OPs a lot of time and angst -- the Internet can be a frustrating place to try to find the right (or accurate) information.
Just my 2 cents worth, in the holiday spirit!
Besides, as soon as you buy it - it's old! Good words by OP. Thanks.

Ain’t that the truth - especially in the digital age.
AMEN. I have been bouncing about that for a while about the D700, one tough camera that I can finally come to afford. A pro quality camera to replace my old but still good D100. I feel the pinch since I would have to also find a good lens. And the debates goes on about D610 is newer and so is the D750 and they cost more. And why do I need 24 mpixel when I don't print any bigger than 13x19". So I keep falling back to the D700 and people are asking why.... Its that symbol that looks like this one .. $.!

Just a few of the old film cameras Ive got at pawn shops and yard sales. I had two large boxes of them in my attic and when I had new insolation blown in they stole one of the boxes. This is about all I have left.
I feel where your coming from. I just got the D3 at a great price and shutter count and a couple lens. I make no money from the hobby do it for my enjoyment. "I" can't see spending thousands of dollars on the latest greatest when I don't have the skills to make it worth the cost plus I would get no return on my investment except maybe joy. But I get joy with a older professional body and lens. The D3 put out great quality pictures just check out flickr.
I read on this forum somewhere from a poster just because it is old does no mean its not good. Quality is Quality it may not be as up today with new touch screens or auto eye tracking or 50mp sensor. But it still collect light and makes a picture to share with out people to tell a story.
Well said. Completely agree!
I have had an on again off again interest in photograph. It started when I sold camera gear at a Ritz shop many years ago. I bought a used A1 then and have been enjoying it and several FD zooms for a lot of years. I am old now but still like to take pictures. But it is getting expensive and hard to do when it comes to developing film. So I have recently purchased a 5ti simply because of the AF. It is getting a little bit hard to get the focus down with the old A1. This means a lot when it comes to printing a good photo. The price of a piece equipment isn't as important as the fun and enjoyment a person gets from using it. TAKE PICTUERS and HANG IN.
