We were riding around a couple of years ago and came across this church. This was our Christmas card that year. I wish you luck with what you are looking for. Merry Christmas.

Oh, did you take that one with your Kodak Instmatic? Impressive.

Comparison of Christians to non-Christians is useless - we go by a different standard and it doesn't originate from this world. Being the least 'bad' or the most 'bad' is still not correct and the comparisons meaningless. For a Christian, the standard is perfection as Jesus was perfect. And every one of us fail every single day. It is why we look to a savior to pay a dept we can't and why we can't say somebody else is faulty without identifying ourselves as being just as faulty.

That is also why we have no standing to say we are better than anyone else or brag about what good we do. Like a goodness race that Jesus already won, if we don't win, coming in 2nd or 423rd does not matter - we are still losers.

Short little story. It's 1967 and I'm on my third tour. There are a ton of Marines who profess no faith in God or any of that other BS. Then the $hit hits the fan and you are in a world of hurt. You can't green the LZ you are running low on ammo and if you get flanked your F*#*D. At those critical junctions; God is a word you hear a lot of and if you get whacked and it hurts like hell; Jesus is a name you hear a lot of. When your safe and sound and the only worry is when are going to get your next pint life is easy. Be as ballsie as you want. Let's hope you never start to run low on ammo......PS my old man was from Limerick. We have been over many times.

God still doesn't get you out of that mess, your fellow marines did. How many called out to god and still died or got maimed. God didn't put you there that was down to politicians who gave you a nasty job to do. Did you really believe there was no need to worry that if you died you were going to heaven? My brother who is a former soldier calls it a job not just for the people he fought with but for the people he was fighting against. Which kind of helps when it comes to trying to stop the fella who was shooting at you 5 minutes ago from bleeding to death. I've never been on a battlefield, I have managed to get a mans hand free when it was trapped in a machine, him screaming his head off, while 50 people just stood and stared. I did what needed to be done and after felt the shock of the incident. Not the only time and some still haunt me. Even when you do everything right, you still replay it over and over...

I've been close to death before and Dr's and Nurses saved my life, a couple of times to be fair, i've had a steady diet of pills and injections ever since. I've also been fortunate to save 1 or 2 lives myself and sometimes failed too. Being in an Irish Hospital you tend to get a Priest coming round. I still remember my visit "Religion" said the Priest. "Not yet" said I, that was the end of his recruitment drive. I know a few Priests and Nuns and they are pretty nice people to work with. Not always the case historically.

I don't have a problem with anyone believing in a God if it helps it helps, what does annoy me are the hypocrites who profess a belief in God and then in their actions perform a complete 180...

I don't believe in God and if I professed a belief, I would be just as much a hypocrite as those that do and do so much evil in the world. That is not being ballsie thats just being true to myself.

I can’t believe that you buy this bs.

What about the 38 year old mom battling cancer for the second time with 2 young children and a loving husband? Tons of people praying for her recovery, only to die and leaving those kids behind. Where was god in all this?

That's just it. He's there all the time to help us through our trials and tribulations. Life can be hard, but it's not all there is. If there were tons of people praying for her recovery, then there will be a tremendous support group for the family left behind. If we know God, we can face death with the knowledge that it is not the end and that, if our loved ones know God, we will see them again as well. Suffering produces endurance. Endurance produces character and character produces hope.

Not really, Miller has about the same quality and as does the attic "Less taste, Less fulfilling".

However, I think you nailed it, but then that's Easter isn't it?

I am a serious Christian who loves to take pictures. I want to take pictures with a Christian theme such as The Love of God, God's Power, Christ in the world. I don't want to take pictures of plants, flowers, animals, landscapes, crosses or churches. Some examples I have considered: Christian signs and sayings on road sides or sides of buildings, club colors on the backs of Christian motorcycle riders. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Blessings and Merry Christmas Bob

I honestly wish you luck with your project but I do feel it will be difficult allowing for all the things you are are not wanting to take pictures of. I think you are limiting your possibilities very much.

The point wasn't what God did or didn't do. It was about guys who never believed in God and when the time came when you were past being scared you were terrified. God and Jesus were on their minds. Nothing more than that. I don't know where they really hypocrites??

I'm going to bow out of this conversation. I think we should all just agree to disagree, and that everyone has their own disposition when it comes to religion. Happy Holidays!

Bob, maybe your are missing something by excluding all churches. In California and Nevada, for example, we have dozens, if not hundreds, of churches built from rough materials in the 19th century, some of which are still in use today. A history of the growth of any religion in the midst of adversity would make an interesting photo story.

Someone said, move this conversation, and I agree. I talk to people about this all the time, but not here.
