Congrats with your D3...I have a D3S and its Lowlight capabillity is only Marginal better than your D3 , a Nikon Big D is Always a Great Choice....my D1 and D1X are still keeping up with my D3S and D3X....that D1 has a skimpy 2.6 mp Sensor , that outperforms many 10mp points and shoots , as it happens to be a true 10.5 mp sensor....shows that info about the amount of mp from a reputable Manufacturer do not mean much ,as there is so much electronic wizardry going on in the camera , it is the end result that counts !!

This thread is all kinds of absurd, sadly, not surprising. This has to be the most illogical change of gear Ive ever read about....
But, how do you rally feel?

My husband and I each had a D3 and we loved them! Dynamic range was amazing with superb low light capabilities. Portraits, sports, scenics, macro and wildlife are all possible with the right lenses. If you have a great photo then 16x20 is definitely doable. They finally died and nikon couldn't repair them (no parts). I got a Nikon D750 which is full frame, my husband got a D500 and a 28-300 lens. We both decided we didn't need more megapixels to slow down our current computer. More megapixels are fantastic if you crop. I wish they didn't have video as I've never used it. I hope your D3 works well for you as long as ours did! 10 years and thousands and thousands of photographs! We started with Nikon in the 90s and have been very pleased.

Traded all my Canon gear today for Nikon gear. Went from Canon 1ds and 7D to Nikon D3 I wanted better low light and fast frame rate. I went to mpd and got a good deal on a low shutter count D3 and a couple of lens, I like doing business with them they seem fair. I looked at the D810 but I don't print large prints and never shoot video mostly post online and 8x10 prints at the most. I like shooting wildlife, sports and some macro.
Who still use this camera and what do you think about the picture quality?

The best camera is one you enjoy using so you'll use it more. Merry Christmas, happy shooting and post some pics from your new toys.

Wow, a lot of this topic sounded more like a political argument!
Why, has somebody called someone's wife a street walker?!?! LoL

No criticism from me. I still use a Canon 5D! lol
I still use a 12MP D300 sometimes and it still takes great pictures. But I don't feel the need to drop $2K+ on a camera every couple of years just so I have the latest technology and bragging rights. I also use a D7000. My newest camera is an A6000. I get great shots with all three.
blablabla .....
Why anyone would switch fro Canon to Nikon does not make sense.
If yo are stuck with Nikon - ok - I see it.
But we have all discussed here so many times that Nikon will eventually go out of business.
They have fallen too far behind.
I prefer the colour the Nikon lenses produce, the low light capability, the dynamic range, the tougher construction of the body, so how do you lose out? Yes, the D3 is an older design but it still works very well and is an excellent value for money. Have no regrets and carry on. As long as you enjoy yourself. That is the name of the game.
