Just wondering, when I ordered my D850, I looked on line for an XQD card reader. Not many different kinds, as far as I can see. Now that I have the camera, the Adorama website says they are "backordered" on each of the different kinds they sell. Presuming that I will (someday) be able to buy one, what make/brand/model reader do you folks use who need to get data from an XQD card?
I have a Lexar, which I purchased from Amazon.
I use a Sony card reader, and my XQD card is a Sony as well. When I only have a few shots to download I just use the USB3 cable that came with the camera.
I use the Lexar Professional Workflow XR2 reader. It has the same push in/pop out type of mechanism as the card slot in the camera.
I have a Lexar and a Sony XQD card reader.
I originally bought a Sony which has a cable to plug into USB port. Then I got a Lexar packed with a which is much smaller and has the USB plug sticking out of the molded housing. I usually grab the Lexar because it plugs right into the front of the computer without and cord.
They work equally well.

Lexar, Sony, Scandisk, they are pretty much the same. Just make sure it is, at a minimum, USB 3.

Same here other than the retailer.
I bought my D500 in November...The Lexar card readers were discontinued or questionably backordered. So I ordered the combo Sony XQD/SD UHS II card reader (also backordered) along with Sony G series XQD and SD UHS II 64gb cards. The Sony card reader is finally available and should be delivered Monday. The Sony route was a bit more expensive...but I should be good to go now. I really didn't care to connect the camera to computer every time I downloaded photos.
Why are you using a card reader instead of plugging the camera into the computer? By removing and reinstalling the card you run the chance to bend a pin. I know you'll say its faster but is it worth the risk. I've shot digital since 2004 and I always plug the camera in the computer and have never had the issue of a bent pin. You'll surely bend a pin when your in a hurry and don't look or take care. By leaving the card in I can reformat in just a second and the camera 's software makes a numerically named folder for your shots.

The label on my box says: "XQD" "Professional XQD Reader USB 3.0 Reader" "Made in China" The XQD is trademarked. So far, it works quite well. Got it when I got my D500 when it came on the market

If we were talking CF cards I might agree with you...they were known for bent pin problems.
Larry, personally I have had to replace/trash several computers because they "caught" some kind of virus. Don't know if it is possible (don't really care) but because of that I have always taken the memory card out of my camera and popped it into a reader with a USB connector for my PC. For me, PCs can come-and-go, but I want my cameras to be as safe as I can make them.
When I bought my D500, I got the Lexar unit included when I bought the XQD card. It was listed at around $40 and that was from Roberts in Indianapolis Indiana. Talk to Ed or Nick in the internet Dept.
