Or do you have an even better way? ... If so, what is it? ... Care to share?

For smaller bodies and lenses - hand held for immediate use, with the shoulder strap wrapped aroumd my wrist for security.
For larger lenses etc as per the image below. When actaually walking I will collapse the monopod and cradle the camera in my arms or carry it over my shoulder, similar to image #2.

Handgrip (leather) only on my biggest DSLR - my Canon EOS 60D (5.7" wide) ... on the rest, Jesu - I use the straps which came with them ....

Oh - one exception ... I bought a Navaho Capturing Couture for my Sony alpha a77 II ... (consider the base strap too garish for my liking)

What interesting shots you come up with, Richard ....

I see you have the strap wrapped around your hand ....

And, in the lower one, I see how a monopod-mounted DSLR can be cradled whilst still attached ...

Thanks for sharing these ...

It depends. Half the time with just the handgrip and half the time with a sling strap. If I'm at an event or jumping out of my vehicle to shoot something that catches my eye than just the handgrip. If I'm out walking or at a tourist spot the camera will be on a sling strap and I will probably have a monopod with me.

All of the above, and about all other ways imaginable, and no, not sharing. It's my secret, and if I told you, I'd have to kill you. Nothing personal.

Op/Tech hand grip, followed by their shoulder sling. All with quick disconnects.

Hand grip.
If I use the strap, diagonally over one shoulder.

I use a Jobe camera strap upside down at the hip. With the camera here I can walk around obstacles. My left hand will cover the camera keeping it from swinging when close to a car or something keeping it close to my side when in tight encounters. The strap is diagonal across my chest having no weight on my neck while having full control of the DSLR camera.

Sling. Camera is at right hand. My tripod hangs from snap hooked to sling shoulder pad under my left arm.

Black Rapid strap most of the time. Op/Tech hanging from my neck.

Sounds kinda inconvenient, there, Waegwan ... constantly switching between a handgrip and a sling-strap, or do you have something in place to make it easier?

Your threat is duly noted, Gene ... I shall earmark this one, for future reference ....
