NOBODY SNEAKED MY CAMERA!
This is serious and I need an answer.
My belongings could be bugged...
Russia could be spying on me...
The world, as we know it, could be ending...
Aliens are taking over...
I might be losing my mind...

All of the above. You don't say if you are using dual cards or whether the errant images are on both cards. Perhaps the memory card was also used in a different camera and contains images taken on that camera by someone else, or those images were copied onto the card via a computer, or someone besides yourself took those images on your camera. There aren't really too many other choices here. Nothing magical or nefarious going on. The GPS feature of your camera is not wifi. Geo tagging WILL NOT copy images to you cards. Yep, we're probably being spied on by somebody, but why would they, even if they could, wirelessly copy those images to your camera?

Dual cards, but only checked the CF...which is what I transferred the firmware on. Both have since been reformatted.
Everything was bought new and never used by anyone but myself.
Hopefully Canon can examine the file and decipher what happened.

As a Republican and a cat person, I would like to point out that "Big Brother" (our government) and "Russia" (Putin), are in bed together for spying on people. And as a witch, I have to say; 'It's about time they got together!" and PS. I get double (Shadow) images on my older Canon movie camera occasionally that I only see when I upload the memory directly to my computer. There are tricks Digital plays on you and dito for film. Of course it could be someone else in the coven messing with me. and PPS. "Are the pictures, we're discussing, any good?" Have a merry Christmas Fotobyferg.

I see that wifi is "optional" on the 7d2 and noted that you said you had opted against having wifi but have you actually checked to see if that firmware update you did inadvertently turned on wifi in your camera? That would seem to me to be the most plausible answer to your issue. My next question would be whether or not wifi could have been activated although it may not even be a visible menu item. My experience with wifi tells me that as tricky as it can be sometimes to set up and get working, the likelihood of something like you've experienced happening accidentally is pretty remote without someone having control of your camera and listening to your complete story I would say that your most likely culprit is the firmware update activating wifi without your knowledge. With some of the later cameras, getting wifi setup and transferring files is a piece of cake but I have spent many hours trying to make it happen with older cameras using things like the tp-link router and even cameras that come equipped with wifi often with little or no success. I will repeat, it often isn't a simple task to transfer a file even when wifi is working and installed but if it's not installed, I can't see much chance of it happening as you have described.
I see that wifi is "optional" on the 7d2... (show quote)

WiFi is not a 7D Mark II built in option. The camera does have GPS for geo-tagging purposes. If you want to use WiFi on the Canon 7D Mark II you need to purchase the Canon W-E1 Wi-Fi Adapter which fits in the SD card slot instead of an SD card. The second slot in the camera holds a CF card which is obviously then required in order to save pictures. I have one myself. Without this card WiFi is not possible on this camera. There was a firmware update a while ago intended to support the use of this card. But in the end, no card, no WiFi.

I really am curious about what happened, and how....because it does seem crazy.

Since you reformatted both cards what are you expecting Canon to do? I can't see what sending them a downloaded image is really going to tell them

Sorry, I was away since my post. So you downloaded to Luminar, and then to a folder on your computer, after which you formatted the cards. I was thinking the movie file did not get on your Camera at all, but was somehow shared with your computer or iPhone and ended up in the same file.

Did your son take movies on his or your iphone while you were there? If so, they could have been shared with your computer.

Do I recall correctly that the date and time on the movie file was similar to when you were taking the pictures? Also, I believe there is free software that can easily recover information from formatted cards. If you tried that, my bet is the movie was not on the cards, and did not get into the camera.

Lastly, let me get this straight: you started to download to Luminar, then gave up because of the slowness. I assume you did not export back from Luminar, but rather copied the files to a folder on your computer rom the card. Did you create a new file to hold the pictures?

This is intriguing.

8 pages and growing. Have you thought that maybe the memory card was used in another camera or that when you purchased the card it could have been one that was returned to the store and they put it back on the shelf and sold it to you? Why don't you download the images that aren't yours, and check the metadata and see what kind of camera and lens was used for them. Or, perhaps someone borrowed that card or you loaned that card to someone and you simply forgot.

Have you been near any Programmers from Macedonia?

Did you recently purchase and install a new memory card? Maybe it was previously used.

I told them the cards had been formatted, but they still suggested I send them the file from my computer. It’s not for me to question what their reasoning is for asking.

The reason it's eight pages and growing is that all the things you have suggested have already been posted multiple times. Now I'm adding to it with this post.

The cards were bought new from B&H over a year ago. The cards have never been loaned. There were no images on the card that weren’t mine, with the exception of the movie file I am questioning how it got on my CF card.

I simply do not know what more I can say, because at this point I am repeating myself as I explain the situation to new posters and it is not my intention to keep rehashing the issue.

Luminar was downloaded. It was the import that was slow, so I changed tactics and downloaded the images into a file created on my desktop....which went faster, as expected.
