Bluetooth connection? That would be my first guess.

No Bluetooth in that camera that I know of.

OK, I have experienced an odd occurence using my camera that I can’t explain but know one of the wizards in here can.

A short time ago I took my son back to his apartment in the East Village. His cats had been spending time with me and we needed to get them back to their city life.

While there we visited the 9/11 Memorial and I shot some pictures with my Canon 7D Mark2. Here’s where it gets weird...

When I got home and downloaded the images I saw where two .mov files had been created. I’d only taken one short movie in the park of the waterfall/fountain memorials in the WTC1 & WTC2 footprints.

The second, unknown video, contained a collage of pictures and video clips...only a few of which were mine. Oddly disturbing....

As many of you know, this camera has the ability for geotagging but, to my knowledge, I have never specifically enabled that feature. If enabled, could it recognize the iconic features of NYC and create its own .mov file using a form of AI? So...

- is Big Brother watching?
- is my camera possessed?
- do I get out my tin foil hat?
- hang garlic or wear a cross?
- cover my camera or tape over my computer’s lens?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Mayor DeBlazio has a camera control system known as CCS at his Governors Mansion . He is avid about collecting images of his city . And people think Democrats are dumb ?
I still do , lol !
If your camera has images on it that weren’t physically clicked by you or another person , well let’s stop there , it’s impossible . Somebody had to have pushed that shutter button .😃

That is a very crowded area. Could someone with a smartphone or camera have come close enough to you, or even bumped into you, in such a way as to activate the Near Field sensors on their device and yours? If you then stood next to each other for a few moments perhaps the transfer could have taken place?

Never knew about this...will look into it.

Nobody is taking you seriously. I'm afraid. I have a film oriented friend who has a small digital camera that she occasionally tries to use. She's anti-computer so I take her memoryy card and print the pictures for her. I just performed this service put the card back in the camera and looked anf found a whole bunch of pictures not downloaded. To shorten the story I found they were from a previous situation that I had downloaded. Therefore Photoshop Elements 15 just refused to reload them. Could something like this be paret of your problem?

What is the date stamp on that mov file ..?... that might give a clue. If you did not have wifi enabled the only other wireless connections might be bluetooth or NFC .... might be that you passed near or close enough to a tourist info booth near the WTC and their system deposited this file on your camera? That's really stretching it though.... Did you ever take the memory card out to read through a PC or Mac?

Amazing, 6 pages and no solution. Query, where did you see the movie? You say downloaded on your computer, and later identified as a Mac. Did you download to “Photos”? Or to a file in Finder or to Elements or other software? Is the movie file also visible on the SD card?

I have some possibilities which I will refine after hearing your answers.

We must solve this mystery.

I don’t think so. I erase or reformat my cards after downloading and, in either case, many of the images simply weren’t mine.

I will probably do as one poster suggested and call canon. They must have some plausible explanation for this.

Currently, I am wondering if, even though my camera is not wifi or bluetooth enabled, the capability may be present but just not enabled by default at the factory. I would think that would be a hardware vs software issue, but what do I know?

Obviously, very little on this odd occurance. But I do intend to get to the bottom of it.

Initially, I downloaded to Luminar but, when the process of editing was taking too long in that program I redownloaded to a file on my computer.

At that point, I was not paying a whole lot of attention to the video(s) I had taken that day, since I was playing with the new Luminar software and not taking any of it too seriously. My forays into photography are highly dependant upon what the subject matter is and if it is sailing season or horse stuff season. I digress...

Anyway, I’m pretty sure I reformatted both cards already, so the info you mention I may no longer have beyond the original file on my desktop’s folder.

Thus far, I do not know how to separate out the images files from the entire video, as they are all embedded in it. Is there a way to do that, that would enable me to see the metadata on the images I did not take?

I haven’t gotten to the point where I need therapy for this issue, but I applaud your initiative. Life is too short to go through it crazy. Have you considered wearing a tinfoil hat? They’re cheaper than therapy, though I have no personal experience with the latter and have not slept in a Holiday Inn Express lately.
