Lovely set - I particularly like the first pic of the Great Blue Heron.

Tuesday we spent the morning at Black Point Wildlife Drive on Merritt Island. It was probably the best experience I have had there. The weather was perfect and the birds were plentiful. There was even an impressive assortment of butterflies! These are just some of the birds we saw. We spent a lot of time just watching the behaviors as well as shooting. The fishing techniques of these large predatory birds are amazing. Foot shuffling to stir the bottom, wing flapping to shade the water for visibility and that laser quick striking action - a very impressive and lethal combo.

This is a wonderful set Carol. You have access to so many birds that are unique to your corner of N. America and these are beautifully photographed. I love your appreciation for the details of their fishing techniques. I sometimes get so caught up in watching them work that I forget to push the shutter button!

Thank you, DebAnn! The Great Blue is a really good model. They are normally very patient and not overly shy.

Thank you, Jerry. This is a great place for photography. Lots of birds, many at reasonable distances, plus wildflower, butterflies and beautiful vistas!

Thank you, Phil! I felt like I was sort of out of practice but it was a really good experience. We are lucky to have both resident species and so many that pass through or stay for the winter. They are all fun to watch but the Reddish impressed me most with his technique!

Hi Carol,
I don't know how I missed your wonderful posting. The images you captured are truly awesome. I too need to get out and take some bird pics. There are about 150 Balled Eagles visiting to feast on spawning fish.
You have some beautiful shots.
Gary

We may have passed each other, things were very active Tuesday morning. We didn't see eagles, but did see wild pigs, and had to wait out a gator using the road in front of our car. You have some really nice photographs to be proud of.

Thank you for your positive comments, Gary! Bald Eagles are certainly a treat to photograph and just getting out to do it is half the fun!

How cool! When I see all the cameras I often wonder if any of them are fellow hoggers. The only eagle I saw was on a power pole before we got to the drive. I saw a couple of smaller gators in the water but didn't see the pigs this trip. We have seen them several times in the past. Seems like there is always something going on and this time it was birds!

I'm glad you enjoyed them, Claude. The Great Blue was a D810 w/24-120 lens. All the rest were D500 w/200-500 and 1.4 TC. I used a tripod with the D500.
