What, Dyxi?

No time to make the swap, or what?

Depends on how long I need to hold the rig up and how fast a shutter speed I can achieve. With light good enough to get a shutter speed of 1500s and better hand held is no problem for the crop adjusted focal length of 900mm. Nikon D7100 Sigma 150-600 C.

Please indicate, up-front, in your response, whether you use a FF dig cam, a crop-sensor one, or you use a Micro 4/3rds system. Thanks ....

I have the Pentax 18 -270 mm zoom lens. It is pretty nice. I only wish it were water resistant. Pentax use to have a 600 mm tele for full frame cameras. I don't know if it is still available, new or used.

Depends on the format ... do you mean 645, 6x6, 6x7, 6x8, 6x9 or some other not included there ....

Why are you so hung up on 20MP, WD?

Most APS-C sensor dig cams now come with 24mp ... and the majority of FF dig cams are a whole lot more ...

The D810 and Pentax K-1 are both at 36MP ... the Sony a99 II is at 42MP ... the D850 comes in at 46MP .... and the Canon 5 DS is 50mp!

Chris, just repeating an answer that didn't answer the question in the first place still does not answer the question. You have stated, "WD ... MFT is NOT the same resolution as FF ... nor is it the same RES as you get from a Crop Sensor Camera ..." and "Well, AP ... the best of the breed MFT (the Oly OM D EM1 II) - is just a hair short of two grand ... and the 12-1000 is another grand .... so - suppose I spend three grand on that little package and what have I got? ... Images half the size of what I'd get with a FF DSLR?" which means if I have a 16mp full frame sensor and I have a 16mp 4/3rds sensor, the resolution of the 4/3rds is half the resolution of the of the full frame.

I will ask my question again in a slightly different way: comparing a 16mp full frame's resolution to a 16mp 4/3rds' resolution, comparing a 20mp full frame's resolution to a 20mp 4/3rds' resolution, comparing a 24mp full frame's resolution to a 24mp 4/3rds' resolution, or comparing a 50mp full frame's resolution to a 50mp 4/3rds' resolution, why is the full frame's resolution always better than the 4/3rds' resolution? What is making the full frame's resolution better than the 4/3rds resolution for the same megapixel count?

Longest lens I have is a Lumix 100-300 zoom on Lumix G7 micro four thirds camera. Here's a pic at the Bronx Zoo with lens set at 300mm, f/5.6, 1/200 sec., ISO 3200

No just too lazy to set it up right now. But as far as handheld if I'm driving down the road see a bird on the telephone pole etc. I may run out and snap a photo but if I have time to set up our use the monopod while I wait for it to take flight from atop the telephone pole or tree if it hasn't done so when I pull over. As I've waited as long as 10 to 15 minutes and certainly don't want to hold that lens in hand that long

Thanks for sharing your cute pic of those dear deer, Joe ...

So, effectively, then - that's handheld at 600mm (FF equiv.) - right?

Oh, right, Dyxi ....

It's either grab it, right then and there ... or watch while it flies off ....

You know what they call that, right?

The one that got away ....

Maybe the revised it for the K-1?

Yes, they should've made the 18-270 WR, huh?

Aside from that ... how effective has it been for you?

Got one, using it - you might like to share, D?

When it comes to weight, it depends on how long the shooting session will be.

I briefly hand held my 500mm f/4 lens (8 lb.) for this shot...

And I briefly hand held approx. 6 lb. 300mm f/2.8 for these...

The above were done with Canon Image Stabilized lenses, on full frame cameras. I don't hand hold those big lenses for very long, though. Most of the time I use them on a tripod or at least a monopod. I can't recall ever trying to hand hold the 500mm when using it with teleconverters.

Below image was done with the 300mm f/2.8 hand held on an APS-C camera...

And this was done hand held with the same 300/2.8 with 1.4X teleconverter, on APS-C...

When it comes to getting a steady shot, I've been using Canon IS lenses for 15 years and do a lot of hand held shooting with lighter weight lenses, including...

300mm f/4 on full frame camera...

300mm f/4 on APS-C crop sensor camera...

300mm f/4L IS with 1.4X teleconverter on APS-C camera...

I almost never use a tripod and only occasionally use a monopod with the 2.5 lb. 300/4 IS, a similar weight 70-200/2.8 IS or a lighter 70-200/4 IS. I also often hand hold a newer design EF 100-400mm with more advanced, high performance IS. But due to it's weight (about 3.5 lb.), I'll put that lens on a tripod or monopod for particularly long shooting sessions... anything more than a few hours.
