EOS mount is Canon.

I also have the Nikon 80-400mm AF-S lens. I use it on my D7000 and D500. I can hand hold it for a while. After about 1/2 hour it's getting really heavy and I want to put it on a tripod.

No!!!! ... Really? ... EOS mount is Canon, is it? ... Then, I guess it won't work on my D7100, then, huh, CO? ... Have to put it on my T4i !!!

An 80-400 is a heavy lens, CO ... but on your D7000 (which I also have) - it's a lighter experience than on your D500, I'll bet!!!!

And to think ... now, there's that Tamron which goes all the way from 18 to 400, and designed to be handheld!!!!

Will wonders ever cease, huh?

I'm getting up there in age but I can still hold my D7200 and Sigma 100-400 without a problem. they did not build it with a tri pod mount for a reason.

As I posted I used the D500 with the 80-400 and own the 200-500 but I sold my 18-200 and bought the Tamron18-400 I enjoy the Tamron here is a shot taken with the Tamron 18-400

... but EOS mount ...❓❓❓

Why, yes, Bill ... EOS mount ... I have a dozen Canon lenses ... my first DSLR was a Rebel T3 ... so most of the lenses bought originally, were to fit the T3 ... which has an EOS Mount, like all current Canon DSLRs ....

A year after I bought my T3 ... I purchased my first Nikon DSLR - the D3200 - effectively, doubling my res!!!

I now have THREE Canon Bodies ... all with EOS mounts ... and FIVE Nikon bodies, all with Nikon F mounts (see below.)

Not sure how it happened ... got all out of proportion, huh? ... a dozen EOS lenses, for just three bodies ....

And with the Nikons ... just over a half-dozen lenses for just under a half-dozen bodies ... kind of off-kilter, huh?

But, in the latter case ... since I began with Nikon in the 70s ... I have much more Nikon glass - but not Digital ....

So cute!!!!

What is it, JC?

Either a skinny raccoon, or a Prairie Dog, huh?

That 200-500's quite nifty, huh?

And only - what - $1500?

It's a steal, huh?

840, huh, WD ?

That should get you anywhere you need to go, huh?

Wow, JC ... nothing wrong with that, huh?

Was that extended all the way out to 400?

The E-M1 mrII with X1.4 teleconverter and the 300mm f4 Pro lenses (840mm f5.6 in 35mm equivalent) is under 5 pounds (I believe 4.8 pounds) and image stabilized to as much as 6.5 stops. With my E-M1 mrII and 14-54mm f2.8/3.5 combination (28-108 in 35mm terms) I now handhold up to 2 seconds on what is becoming a increasing basis. Shooting at 840mm is best done with the EE-1 viewsight.

Well, that makes a lotta sense, huh, Julian?

What? ... You picked one up in a store, but you never shot with it, or what?

Canon 800mm F5.6 but I routinely use a Sigma 150-600 which has yet to be attached to a tripod. What about yourself?

My longest, right now, Gene ... is that 80-400 Tokina I've already mentioned in the thread, I have for my Canons.

It's okay, hand-held ... but, better if I brace myself as much as possible ... elbows on a picnic table, for instance ...

Otherwise, it's best suited for tripod use ... it does have a collar ....

But, I am looking into the possibility of acquiring a G2 .... we'll see ...

Using my Sony a77II with 4x DZ ... I'm out to 630 with my Sigma EX 105 OS HSM Macro ... 315 with CIZ (2x) ....

Other than that, I have an 18-250 for both my Sony alphas, and a Sigma version for my Nikons ...

Plus I have the 18-270 for my Canons ... all of those, are, of course - infinitely - hand-hold-able ....

Oh, and I have a few 70-300s ... a Tamron (a beaut) and two Sigma Macros ... 200 is okay, but 300 on Macro - shaky!

One's for Nikon, the other's for Canon ....

I use the Tamron 150-600mm G2 on a Canon Rebel T6s for up to 12 hours a day roaming around the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, Safari Park, San Diego National Wildlife Refuge, Ramona Grasslands, and the crowded beaches with no -pod of any kind. Everything is hand-held. No problems. It's not a good lens for dead-of-the-night pictures, though.

Yeah, well ... it starts at f5.6 and slides to f6.3 ... so I wouldn't think it would be, Russell ....

But it does come with a tripod collar, right?

So, Tamron doesn't expect you to be able to hand-hold it for an extended time ....

Got any at the zoo, etc. ... you might like to share?

The longest lens I own is the 40-150mm PRO lens, m4/3 system.
No problem using it hand-held, especially with the in-body stabilization of the OM-D E-M1 camera.

Okay, Star ... easy to do ...
