Its worth noting that you can store photos outside of photo's e.g in lightrooms collection. letting you have both

While that seems like it will work, the caveat is if you move any image with either it then becomes lost in the other software until you locate it again, otherwise it is a way to edit using both.

Has anyone found out about putting a watermark on LRcc2017????"

Not there in (new/cloud) Lightroom CC. But, you can right click, pick edit in Photoshop and add a watermark there.

I have a Mac and use Photos. The editing has its limits. Does anyone have experience with using Photos as the main Photo manager and using Lightroom as an editor ?

Apple's Photos has more power than meets the eye and it and it's gaining power with each new release. The latest Photos looks a lot like the old iPhotos. The PhotoAppsExpert has some information on his site for better utilizing the power of Photos. He used to be the Aperture Expert but when Apple discontinued Aperture, he broadened his offerings to include many different editing applications (including Photos). Below is a link to the training he offers for Photos.

Post processing digital images consists of three operations, Cataloging, Editing, and Publishing/sharing. Where we are with editing today, there are many programs available offering various combinations of those three functions. Photos does all 3. LR does all 3. Adobe LR is not the only option for this. There are a couple other programs that do all 3. For more in-depth information on photo editing options today see: http://mattk.com/state-post-processing-photo-editing-2017/

Here on UHH there are a lot of Adobe advocates and you will hear over and over again "use LR it is the best", "you MUST use LR", "LR is the way to go"... etc. (Personally I subscribe to Adobe's Photographers Plan and I like it). But beware LR has a learning curve, newer versions will be available only as a subscription service (some hate the subscription idea). Most companies offer a free trial period. I highly recommend you take advantage of that, try several of them, and then pick the one you like the best.

Why would you want to use "another" photo manager/cataloger if you were to have Lightroom? That is mainly what Lr is, a cataloging program, and a good one. For editing, especially pixel or layer editing there is Photoshop. Lightroom's editing capabilities are limited, fast and efficient at what it does though.

One very good reason: compatibility with other iApps. Photos is tightly integrated with iMovie and Pages and Keynote. For instance, if you make slide shows in iMovie (for the Ken Burns Effect), your finished images SHOULD BE in iMovie for easiest access. They don’t have to be, but it makes things much easier.

You might be as well using the publish to Hard drive feature in lightroom most projects don't need all your photos. It keeps track of any updated edits so you can republish any that need a bit more work in lightroom.

Sure. My editor is Lr. But I export JPEGs for Photos when I’m doing a hybrid video/stills project. It makes the workflow smoother.

Don't completely understand your question. Watermarks in the Classic version work the same as in the prior version. No? At least mine seems to work just fine. Best of luck.

I'm looking into that RAW/Power app, too. I'm comfortable with the simplicity of Photos, and just want simple, basic editing tools.

Looking forward as how you take to RAW/Power.
