It's not the camera, its the photographer. You can get award winning shots from an iPhone. Knowledge of composition and light will get you extraordinary images with ordinary equipment. But it is nice to have the breath of features that the D850 has and there are too many to list here. You also have a great selection of lenses from Nikon and 3rd party providers. You also have support other major manufacturers such as Profoto with their strobes that work with Nikon's TTL system. Again I could go on. When it comes to resale, there are so many Nikon shooter's out there, that you will certainly find a buyer.
Steve your How to use Autofocus PDF is great thank you!
Forget the Fujifilm, take a look at the H6D-100c.

I'm waiting until Spring to make a decision... plenty of time to research this... and save money. No eating out, no trips, no buying anything and 4 months... how much can I save up? We never eat out, we never take trips, and I buy nothing anyways. I'm mortgage poor, folks. (My mortgage is killing me).

Not to mention the property taxes on top of it, every sundae needs a cherry right? What about all your current glass? Can you still use it on a medium format? Would it only require a mount adapter? I'm thinking circle of projection onto the sensor here may be in question.

No eating out, no trips, no buying anything for four months? Seriously, your serious here right? You want to spend $6400.00 on just the body. A couple of lenses would put you easily at $10,000.00. If indeed you buy nothing cause your mortgage poor. Why are you even considering this without robbing a bank. It all sounds very unrealistic. DXO scores prove me out.
And besides, the D850 is in a different class than the Fujifilm GFX 50S. They are different camera's altogether, meant for two different applications, they cannot be compared side by side. Therefore this post is null and void of any serious consideration of comparison.
Besides, you don't even own a car. If I were you I would lower my sites a little. Spending a minimum of $10,000.00 for something that will make you NO money would be a poor decision for someone who is MORTGAGE POOR. Your words.

Well Steve, not many of us could get those shots regardless of equipment. You got skills man, you got skills.
To be redundant, Steve's shots are incredible.
My 850 came in last night. Very excited to pick it up.
Steve,
I want to read your pdf on how you train birds to pose in the air for you! Great pics!

Good for you.
Now, go out and make images like Steve.
Steve, take a look at the Pentax 645Z. It is slightly cheaper than the Fuji, and has many second hand both manual and AF lenses available at reasonable prices: macros, zooms and primes. It can also be hand held when the light is right and functions far more like a good DSLR. Read Ming Thein's three part blog on his use of it.
Pentax also makes adapters so one can use dslr and even the old manual 6x7 lenses. While I greatly admire the Fuji, at present I think the Pentax is an overall better camera.
