No question at all, the 24-120mm f/4 is the best choice.

Incidentally, for Street Photography a good set up would be to set it at 24mm, focus at 10 feet and use f/11. You can use aperture priority and ISO 800, or you can use Manual exposure of maybe 1/500 and AutoISO.

Check the DOF the above provides and you will see the point! It is a preset point and shoot ready at any instant. I have been using that (zoomed to 35mm) with first a D800, then with a D810, and have just started using a Fuji x100s with an APS-C sensor and a 23mm lens.

Yes, it is "super"... for a full frame camera user like yourself.

But, no, it's probably not... for a DX camera user like the original poster. Depends upon what OTHER lenses the OP already has. If they have a wider lens in their kit alread, then the 24-120mm can be a nice walk-around lens on a DX camera. But if they don't have a wide angle, for street, landscape in particular, they should consider something with a wider angle of view.

Exactly.

I love my 24-120 Nikkor. It's my main walk around lens when I don't need the reach of my 28-300. This is on my FF D800e. The 24-120 gives higher IQ as well, IMHO!

Buy a Canon 18 55 and save lots and it's quite adequate or a 2.8 Canon midrange lens equivalent-the 18 400 may be too large to haul for street use. The 35mm 1.8 is smaller and less obtrusive also. Just saying-

He has a Nikon, what sense does buying a Canon lens make?

The OP asked about choosing between two specific lenses and got about 10 replies recommending lenses other than the two he asked about.

I use the Nikon 24-120 on my D500 and find it to be an exceptional lens both indoors and outside. It is on the heavy side, but the results I get make it well worth carrying. My wife and I operate a DayCare, so most of my work, both indoors and out, involves catching the children at the right moment. Using the FX lens on a DX body really showcases the best of the lens and consequently the children. I do also have the Nikon 16-80 2.8/4, but it just sits in my bag. The Tamron 70-300 supplements for grandkid's sports although in most cases the 24-120 would be quite adequate. All my landscapes are done with the 24-120.

For a crop sensor camera, and landscapes or street, the 24-120mm may not be wide enough in many circumstances. You might look at the Tamron 16-300mm if you do not think you need the reach of the newer 18-400mm. The Nikon 18-140 is probably the best of the do everything zooms from Nikon. For street, you might treat yourself to a prime like the Nikon dx 35mm f/1.8.

I have a D7100!and the 18-140 and 35mm f/1.8 are my standard lenses, supplemented by the 10-20mm which is very sharp for its price.

I have the latest Tamron 16-300 on my Canon, and when I was in Italy this past April, it performed outstandingly, check out a couple form my 70D.
You may want to look into this one also, as it is wider at 16mm

First of all - I have no intention of spending your money, as often seen in many recommendations.

That said...
Of your two choices, and your photography, I’d chose the Nikon 24-120. No doubt. Because street and landscape have no use for longer lenses. As a tourist in a new city, or as a landscape photographer a wide lens will probably be more of use than a long one.

However, from my photography interest, which is similar to yours, I’d ask you to reconsider your choices.

Here are my thoughts...
As a rookie to DSLR (but not film) I got a D5300 and an 18-55 in January. My second lens was a 55-200mm. (Because it looks cooler on the camera! It took me a couple of months to realize and recognize my stupid mistake...)
My next was a 35mm (still can’t afford the 24mm I want...)

I don’t think I’ve used the 55-200 more than a handful of times since I got it in Feb. And then mostly indoors for candid close up shots of people.

After realizing my mistake with the 55-200 I started analyzing what I should get next. The choice fell on a wide angle lens because I want to shoot the whole view in front of me and not only parts of it. I remembered my struggles during my last trip around Europe. Stockholm, London, Paris, Athens, Santorini. Not to mention my pictures from NYC and Miami. All pictures would have turned out so much better with a wide lens than any other. But this is my photography, I’m sure it’s not yours.

My choice fell on the Tokina 11-20mm, f/2.8. (It makes 16.5-30mm on our crop sensor cameras) Because I want crisp razor blade sharp pictures rather than closeups from a large zoom. I’ve read and watched tons of reviews and the Tokina is better than the Nikon equivalent 12-24mm f/4, in every aspect possible. (And I don’t want the fish-eye distortion a 10mm or less produces.)

So what am I saying?
-Don’t make my mistake and buy a long lens you won’t need or find useful in street and landscape photography. If you think the Tokina is too wide for you, look at the Nikon 18-105. It’s a damn good choice, and at a very decent price on eBay. If you have more money to spend I’d suggest the Nikon 16-80, or its older brother 16-85. Both are stunning options according to the reviews.

Here’s a good link for reviews:

I hope you find my thoughts useful. And I hope you find the lens you really want.

BTW
I just bought the Tokina 11-20mm for $395 on eBay. Wish me luck it turns out as I expect it to.

Answered as to 24-120. Tamron not great at longer lengths. Nikon 18-140 on the body mentioned.
