Hello, looking for some help, opinions on a good travel camera. I'm looking for something compact with zoom capabilities, I know many of these have limitations with sensor size but still want something compact that will take adequate pictures. I would like to keep the price range between $400 & 500, two I've come across that seem to fit this category are the Cannon Sx60 & the LumixTZ80, I'm sure there are many more. Does anyone have any experience with these camera's, your thoughts on them would be appreciated. Thanks to any response to my inquiry.

What defines a “travel camera”? Is there a size limit? Different strokes for different folks?

I have owned the LUMIX TZ60for a couple of years now and I am 100% pleased with it,it hasgone to Spain,Norway,Cyprus ,Belgium, and the uk.it gives excellent photos, has 30x zoom gps.raw and a viewfinder.so I can imagine that later models are better still.

i'm not going to recommend any camera. sit down and evaluate your knowledge and skill level. add in you needs and travel limits, something in your brand name will pop up.

I have used the Panasonic ZS100 for a year for travel purposes. I need a camera that will fit in a pocket and has a viewfinder. The ZS (TS?) 100 fits my needs very well. The lack of
extreme zoom range is not a big factor unless you enjoy lugging around tripods and other impedimenta around. With the bigish sensor, photos can be cropped.

I keep a Sony a6000 with me while traveling. It take great images and packs easy. Especially when riding my Harley Davidson Street Glide. Getting ready to ride today. Camera batteries charged ready to go.

My vote would be with the large group already posted for the Panasonic ZS100. I have one and it produces excellent image quality for a camera that fits in a jacket or cargo pocket.

The different suggestions you have received should provide you with a very good camera for traveling. Although I know it is not what you are interested in I prefer a camera with the quality and versatility of a mirrorless camera. It has interchangeable lenses and those cameras, like my Olympus fit my style.
Any of those cameras that have been suggested should be good enough for your needs.

My son got the SX60 to take to Greece. It worked very well for him--great images.

I have an older Panasonic ZS20. Take it with me all the time. One just never knows when an opportunity happens. When traveling we go about 60mph. Can't stop for photos as we are pulling an RV. So I take images out the window as we zip down the interstate. Still got some 60 mph images, as I call them. However, I found that it was not a good idea to do that. I now have dust in all of my images. Can't get it out of my lens. I have to edit every single shot now. I could replace this camera, however the last time I shopped I didn't like the options/setting available. So I just keep editing out the dust.

I agree with this sentiment: My “travel” camera is a Fuji. FWIW on a recent trip I saw some lugging huge bags with DSLRs with monster zooms. Then I saw thousands of cellphones, many with selfie sticks. I don’t recall seeing anyone with smaller travel cameras. ( My wife had one that stayed in her bag while she used her cell phone.).
