My XT1. Sits in the bag, the performance and ease of use just isn't there. I am sure at sometime the mirror will be gone but for now I like how the DSLR feels in my hand and I like the performance.

While at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, I met a man who was shooting with a mirrorless camera. As we talked in-between shots, he said that he loaded his images on a disk and that maybe he would put them on a flash drive, but he had a lot and never looked back at what he had taken. I mentioned to him that he should be using a Tdrive. He said that he would try it, but I thought, "why bother, you never look at what you have taken."' I use a D810 and don't need the latest upgrade.

I imagine it'll be a long time before the mirror dies. A lot of people really do prefer having the viewfinder... I'm one of them...

Couldn't agree more. I don't like EFSs OR TV.

Understood, Greg ... however, this isn't just another debate between which is better - Mirrored or Mirror-less ...

The Catchy Title I used here - actually refers to the basic tap dance routine - which goes Click, Slap, Step ....

Now, you can use that same rhythm - shall we call it - using a DSLR ... click ... mirror slap ... next step ... got it?

With ANY kind of mirror-less camera, including SLT designs ... all of a sudden, the basic Tap routine ... just focuses on CLICK!

No other noise is necessary, nor is any other noise heard ...

So - what you're left with - is a tap dancer - just clicking ....

OR an SLT user, or a mirror-less user - going immediately on to the next step in his (or her) routine ... get it?

Once everyone (including those still doing the whole 3-step shuffle) realizes how easy it all CAN be - they will all adapt ....

Give it a couple of decades ... then, you'll see ....

Understood, Greg ... however, this isn't just anot... (show quote)

😂. Heh, Heh, I couldn’t have said it any better myself. Well stated. And I understand that.

But you did, it seems, not too long ago. That D810 is no slouch!

Mirrorless is still relatively in its infancy I know many here swear by their mirrorless cameras but they still have a long way to go before or if they become the norm.

Look again! They do a lot of things so much better than Canon/Nikon. Mirrorless is an electronic technology as opposed to the hybrid mechano-digital which bridged the gap between pure mechanical and electronic camera technology. The mirror camera is a transitional technology. The mirrorless is the mature technology. They ARE the new norm. It is just that most old duffers are unwilling to recognize it.

I don't think they will expire any time soon although a high res Nikon mirror-less with a good adaptor would knock my socks off. Nikon is loosing ground sales wise...I don't know what they are thinking.

The D850 is great for the consumers that can afford it but it will certainly cut into D5 and D500 sales. I wonder if that was well thought out.

I have not understood why neither Canon nor Nikon have taken the lead with MILC. I left Nikon and went Sony. Could have been happy with Fuji. But if either Canik had a decent MILC I would have gone there instead. Neither has a decent offering. Canon's best so far is the M5 which is a featureless piece of cowdung. Nikon can't even produce cowdung.

Guess you can put me in the old duffer category as I am one of those that believe if it work great for you then do not change it. Took me quite awhile to adapt from film to dslr and I still always have one of my film cameras alongside the Nikon D800. Plus I really doubt if I will need another dslr (though I sure like the offerings)
they have a pretty long life and if I ever do I go to KEH, B&H, Adorama used/refurbished marketplace and pick up the latest/greatest from 3 to 5 years ago my D7100 was the last time I bought brand new dslr.

Yet another interesting thread! As it happens, I was playing around with my touchscreen LCD and think I could switch to an EVF without too much trouble, but I just love a big bright viewfinder. I think I’m going to slowly buy Canon full frame lenses for the next few years. By then, I’ve heard Canon will come out with a FF mirrorless that will/can use their FF lenses. I’m not sure how balanced a small mirrorless camera would balance with big FF lenses, and really it’s the lenses that are most of the weight. How much does a battery grip change the weight for mirrorless? I actually look forward to the changes and I know that both Nikon and Canon will keep up and are in it to win.

I won't argue with your logic or the end results, but I believe you've gotten your terminology backwards.

Mirror technology is the mature technology and mirrorless is more the transitional. Mature technologies are those that have been around for a very long time, are well understood, and been improved over time to a point where their potential is maximized or close to it. That does not mean they are perfect, or that they will not be replaced, merely that the technology has matured.

Mirrorless technology which has been changing and improving significantly from year to year is not yet a mature technology. It could change radically as new materials and manufacturing techniques become available before it matures, although that time may not be very far in the future.

I've tried mirrorless but I didn't like the EVF. I think the new Sony A9 will be the big test for mirrorless. It's intended to compete head to head with the Nikon D5 and Canon 1DX Mk.II. Will pro photographers start using it at sporting events and at the Olympics?

Don't like the EVF?
Remove it!
That's what this guy did to his Sony A7:https://petapixel.com/2017/10/12/guy-sliced-off-viewfinder-sony-full-frame-camera/
Of course, you'd be stuck with using the LED screen.

Not sure I agree that mirrorless is the mature technology...
