And how would we find any 'original link'? There are billions of them on the web...

Seriously, is Google promoting some sites more than other? Absolutely. Does this prevent anyone to do a serous and accurate research? No. You just need to be able to cross reference your results.

Google has a tendency to be used as a verb for 'search the internet'. There are many search engines that exist. These are specialized per field (never found any on photography ~ Been looking for one for eons). You just need to know what to use for and used advanced search tools.

By the way, folks are paying BIG $$$ to search the WEB for companies. I know at least one person in Miami FL who makes about 200k per year searching for patents for various attorney offices - as an independent free-lance researcher. Google is not her primary source but is also her friend as she finds crumbs that leads her where she wants to be.

Our usual vision on internet is two dimensional, we need to change that.

. And yes, the answer is 'why are you wasting 'my/our' time. Same goes for the insane thread titles or subject that are non-descriptive... As your is, by the way.

And then you go on to post multiple discourses on a thread that is wasting your time.

I agree 100%. If I were a newbie to photography and got that answer, ("Why don't you just google it?) I'd write off UHH as a group of photo snobs, never come back and tell all my newbie riends to avoid UHH like the plague! We're here to help photographers of all levels.

Agree! Anyone complaining about a topic needs to get a life. No one is forced to be on UHH. If you don’t like a topic, move onto another one that you approve of. People are getting sillier by the day. Don’t people have more important things to do like family and/or real friends?

"Waisting" time? How do you measure up? Vital statistics please!

Height, weight, chest, stomach, hips at least. Age would also help. Imperial or metric is fine!

P.S. There is always a quantum of seriousness to my posts, I take a superposition until I need to declare a final position.

I also think it is rude to blame, flame or otherwise disparage a poster for not "doing his/her homework before purchasing some gear or posing here." !

In that case, if you look at the OP's original post in this thread, it started with a title in ALL CAPS, which is considered to be SHOUTING, which can be considered rude in itself. The body of the text was complaining about his bad mood, that he wasn't getting what he wanted, which is extremely self-centric, self-serving, and arrogant. Attitudes that are considered by some to be rude.

The OP wasn't criticized flamed or disparaged for not doing his/her homework, the OP started with a bad attitude and a derogatory comment about the UHH community, together with a self entitled attitude.

The OP needs to learn a few basic social skills, whether on line, in a discussion forum, or in person.

The post wasn't about questions relating to purchasing gear and asking for advice, it was simply an angry outburst, and possibly meets your comment about 'posing' here.

My approach will be simple. I will ignore his questions even if I do have the answer. I certainly won't do any research for him.

You are right in every word, but so is the OP....He is just venting at how sometimes on here some can be very curt and not nice. He was evidently one that got hurt, and is angry about it. He probably should have explained his anger the first thing. But there are a lot of answers on here "google it", which is not a proper response to someone asking for help, which is what this forum is for. Not everyone is of the same capability, either with a camera or computer.

Since I laid the turd that prompted this post, I'll freely admit I should have thought a second that my response question could be item #3 on the next day's daily digest ... and then foresaw the hens in the house might just drop all their feathers clucking about it ...

My skin crawls at another catch-all response: you should get a copy of Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. Which really is more obnoxious: a suggestion to consult the indexed knowledge of mankind generating millions of results in subseconds of clock time? Or, go read a book (Understanding Exposure, the manual, etc)? I guess the fault with either suggestion is they're both a bit of homework that seems to be beyond or beneath the members offended by such an idea ...

Kinda like having three pollocks in a room and getting five options! Nothing against the Polish, just an expression.

Google can usually point you in the right direction, if you know how to word your query. You can also be pointed to erroneous information. But, if you don't know what you don't know, there is no way of knowing.

Asking a question on UHH may not give any better odds of getting a right answer initially. However, an incorrect answer will be met with the uproar from the crowd. Also, after spending time on any forum you learn who you can depend on, who is trying, and who is blowing smoke. In addition, with UHH you have discussions which, over the objections of a few, expand on the original topic and after a while may take a sharp turn. Since the original question is usually addressed in the first page or two, beyond that it doesn't really matter where it goes. Just like face to face conversations, online discussions are not static, they evolve.

The difference with face to face conversations is that you very seldom have people join the conversation just to say your current topic is stupid.

That’s how I found UHH from one of several hundred of Google searches on camera comparisons when I was shopping for a new camera. Yeah, anybody above the age of 7 can Google it. But experienced, knowledgeable, reliable guidance is still tough to get from Google.
