It always puts me in a bad mood when responses on UHH resort to “Why don’t you just google it?” Which implies, “Why are you wasting our time?” I just thought the point of forums like this was to share, to question, and to teach. Oh, and to communicate with humans rather than algorithms.

And they come here fore expert advice. By the way, do you know the definition of expert? An ex is a has been and a spurt is a drip under pressure. In my years reading this forum most questions are receive a number of erroneous answers. How does one sort that out? Yeah, do a search online.

Don’t pay any attention to grumpy old men. Think about how pathetic such statement is. We are on a free message board as guests. Just be thankful that you are not related to such losers.
Since the first logical steps should be to do a minimal research, something few do on this forum, there is an allergic reaction that anyone can understand.
What is DOF? How do I set it? Really? Goggle has all the CLEAR answers from reputed pros. So... 'Google' or 'Bing' or... Yeah, '
Dogpile' too. And yes, the answer is 'why are you wasting 'my/our' time. Same goes for the insane thread titles or subject that are non-descriptive... As your is, by the way.
Now there are subjective areas where a different input is needed. These depend on the 'human factor', something you do not get by a web search.
One can blame UHH search engine too as it is notoriously weak. I find funny that we have more answers when using.. err...
Google to search UHH!!!
Type of useless
thread I just created just to mess with you (as a joke). I really did have issues, the damned cameras came with the German default.... Could not find anything until I googled how to change that and used translate in google.

That is one reaction, but it also implies that you may not be willing to take the effort to attempt any research for yourself. Google will find answers to many things very quickly, and you can usually tell how reliable the responses are. Posting broadly on UHH then asks many people to spend time - even a little - responding. Something that you could probably do for yourself in five or ten minutes could easily end up costing ten or a hundred times that effort spread across the community. So you may, in fact, be wasting a lot of people's time and yet appear not to care. Some might consider that to be somewhat selfish. Is your time so much more valuable than that of other forum members?
It is almost as bad as insisting posters do a search, on the unfathomable and unreliable search function here.

I totally agree, Ron. I worked for a market research company, say a $50M run rate business, that typically held everything behind the paywall. It's own website search function was abysmal, so both clients and analysts used Google to find information and reports. Of course, they could not be read unless the user had access rights, but Google was, and probably still is the best way to find where information can be found.
Take care!

Thank you I spotted a big error in the quote, corrected it...

Peter, spending time on a forum in itself is waisting time. Come on now! You can’t be serious.

"Waisting" time? How do you measure up? Vital statistics please!
Height, weight, chest, stomach, hips at least. Age would also help. Imperial or metric is fine!
P.S. There is always a quantum of seriousness to my posts, I take a superposition until I need to declare a final position.

Google seems to bring up a favoured few sites, an awful lot of shops and a number of irrelevant pages. There is a great deal of chaff to sift through in order to 'find' what you want. Then of course there are those sites that disagree with what you have just read, and propose another theory as undisputed 'fact'.
Lot like people really.
Facts are merely bits of information that you find useful, for a while, until someone or your circumstances comes up with a better solution. (Paradigm shift). In truth, searching online WILL give you a better answere, to your personal circumstances and preferences, than asking a small cross section of the public.
'Google' has become a collective noun, for any internet search. Using other 'search engines' will give you alternative lists of information sources. (Plus their version of 'fluff')
'Links and Resources' on the other hand may be a better proposition. At least: it is to be hoped someone actually found the information informative before posting it.
Yes it can be annoying to be told 'what is best for you'. - It has never stopped other people from doing so though!
In order not to fall ito this trap again...perhaps we should use more hot links to learned articles and less personal opinions. In that way we needen't open Google..
have fun
