You really don't know any other tunes, do you? Are you always this cynical? You do realize that your views are a bit of a joke around here. Makes one wonder "who poked the Luddite again?" Just sayin'
The sheer numbers of people who use Lr successfully, as is evidenced by the quarterly reports from Adobe, seem to indicate that it is not a problematic as you make it out to be, and people actually do figure it out. For editing the learning curve couldn't be shorter, but most stumble on the file management. Once it is explained (or they figure it out) to them that Lr uses a database for image management - as do ALL of the DAM software (digital asset management) that is used by small and large companies to catalog and manage their image and video files - the light bulb goes on and they are finally able to work productively.
No doubt there are good alternatives. But nothing on the market offers the completeness of the Adobe solution. Personally I like Capture One for its speed and excellent raw conversions. I like DXO for it's noise reduction, detail retention and perspective corrections. I like On1 for it's tight integration with Lr and Ps, it's speed on preview, and the quality and wide range of options on it's raw conversion on single images. The Develop module (raw converter) is not a tool that I incorporate into my regular workflow yet. It has a little further to go. But the other modules dovetail seamlessly with PS and Lr.
People have problems with Lr because they expect it to work like a file browser. It's like using a hammer to drive a screw into a piece of wood. People are surprised and mystified when it doesn't work the way they expect it to.
Most people who pan Lr are like yourself - offering advice on something they have no first-hand knowledge of, or tried it with the expectation that it is like Bridge or some other browser-based system.
You are in the small minority who refuse to properly, for yourself, evaluate new "stuff."
I'll bet you still use one of these. What else would an old crank like yourself have - but an old crank phone. . .
(Nothing personal, just partaking in a little humor, just like you enjoy doing)

Oh,and I forgot. Rarely do people actually pay the full $120 for this. Most sign up for the trial, and after 30 days or so, if they have not purchased it, they get an email from ON1 with a special offer.
I have been using ON1 products way before the company was called ON1. I did subscribe to the PLUS program and find the extra cost well worth it. I too kept 10.5 just in case, but after several great updates never use it. The program keeps getting better and better.

Yes, I remember OnONE. That goes back to at least 2012, with their PerfectPhoto Suite.
The number of Adobe customers is so large that if one tenth of one percent joined to create a forum focused on complaints, it would be a busy forum. The other 99.9% may be busy creating digital art!
That said, it is wonderful to see creative competition. I wonder how far the technology will go while the (old and mostly men) members of this forum will still be making photographs.

I ordered it on Tuesday right after watching the webinar announcement. The Beta was released today and I downloaded and installed it earlier today.
