I nearly bought the Roku just to watch Doc Martin season 8 on acorn but decided after its acorn run it will return to PBS. Are you enjoying Season 8 ? Leaving for Mohonk Mountain Lodge tomorrow , have the trees turned in your area?

I didn't want to wait for PBS or Netflix. The first two have been excellent - typical Doc Martin plots.

Not much leaf activity here yet. Mostly green. Mohonk is always beautiful, though, regardless of the season.

Jerry,

I have had my Roku for a few years now and love it. I will agree that Pluto is good and adding channels on a regular basis. If you search for free Roku channels you will find there are a ton of them out there. One of my relatives signed up for service that will rebroadcast the shows from the previous day. He has said that anything on cable is shown on the channel. As I remember it's about 10 dollars a month he said. I'm sorry I don't have the name but maybe someone here will know what it's called and will be able to give you a heads up. If not send me a PM and I will contact him and get the name of it.

Have a great evening!

Best wishes,
Steve

If you have a Blu Ray player, it may have the ability to connect to streaming services. Ours, a Panasonic I believe, does.

Oh! I see that the commercialized version is $5.99. They have been bugging me to subscribe to their $39.99 package.

A month or so ago, I needed to up my Internet Data to Unlimited (I am on the road a lot). AT&T upgraded me for $5.00 a month less than I was paying. In addition, they added a subscription to DIRECTV NOW for $5.00 (lifetime) -- making the cost the same. Then they added HBO/HBO NOW for $5.00 a month. So, I am pretty well set. This, BTW, is my first experience with non-OTA television.

I was curious though about the difference between the low-end Hulu and my (low-end) DirecTV NOW package. Going to "Streaming TV Guides" (http://streamingtvguides.com/), I find that there are 14 networks with Hulu that I don't have; BTN, BOOM, Chiller, ESPNEWS, ESPNU, FS@, FYI, NBC Golf, Lifetime Movies, Nat Geo WILD, Oxygen, POP, SEC ESPN, and Universal Kids. On the other hand, my DirecTV NOW package has 18 networks more than the total Hulu package... plus Add On's of Showtime, Cinemax, STARZ, STARZ Encore, and STARZ Kids (and HBO, of course).

I am unsure what the $39.99 Hulu package has since they make it very difficult to get a head count.

Edit: I forgot, I have had Amazon Prime for several years and use it quite a bit. In addition, AT&T, also, gave me a Roku Premier+ at no cost.

How did you get the Roku Premier+ at no cost?

TIA

AT&T included it in the package. This was a promotion that AT&T had a month or so ago wherein if you subscribed to their Unlimited Data plan, what I explained above applied -- including the free ROKU Premier+. Their current "bundle" deals can be found here: https://www.att.com/bundles/. FWIW: I didn't know about the promotion when I stopped in to the AT&T store to upgrade my data plan.

This is really advantageous to me because I can go (anywhere I have cell service) and stream the DirecTV NOW networks without worry of Data charges -- which, even without streaming, was a constant concern in the past.

Anyway, I guess the bottom line is; go into an AT&T store (or other Vendor) and speak with a Rep. Everyone is hungry for your business now so who knows what goodies you can walk out with.

with thousands of channels to pick from it takes awhile to find the ones you like, you can log into the flickr channel and see your photos in the glory of a large screen tv. or if you do a google search on the web for Roku Private channels you will find some codes for channels that are non commerical some stay and some go away but it's really easy to make your own Roku channel just for your own personal use also.
some of the more off beat private channels i have seen or heard is one that does live 911 calls from around the country, or tap into the different cities around the country/world web cams so you can just sit and watch the effial tower 24/7 if you want.
Roku just started their own free movie channel which seems pretty good to start. Remember also that you can stream cable/sat channels from your families accounts so when they come over they can watch what ever they would normaly watch on their set at home, and if you travel or have family in other parts of the country it is easy to load the local news channel from their area so you can keep an eye on their weather and such. If you have a Roku box it most likely will have a usb slot on it's side and you can load photos (jpg) on a flash drive and view them on your big screen. Picture night just like like we did with slides and a projector.
Remember one of the beauties of the Roku is you can add a channel and watch a day or week and then take it off and put something else on.
