Why would anybody carry around a camera?

Almost every photographer's nightmare - but, there was a reason you stopped; you enjoyed the moment. All moments are for sharing, hence photography. A photographer friend has an empty picture frame in his den (kinda like the one in "Friends," only much larger). A long time I ago I asked, "What happened to the picture in the frame?" Without even skipping a beat he said, "The one that I DIDN'T take."

OK, I have my Nikon D5100 when I'm out looking for pix, but I have 2 Canon SD 1400 Is cameras. One is always in my pocket, and the other is always in my car.
Start with a P&S camera & carry it with you. My P&S's are really small so they're not bothersome.

I usually have a camera with me but have the wrong lens on or some other reason to delay the photo just long enough for the moment to disappear, making the frustration worse than not having the camera in the first place :)

I lost my camera-phone due to stupidity of having it in my pocket when I sat in a hot tub. Now, with so many coming out with 8 mps, I am shopping so I won't ever be without a camera. I always carried one when I traveled on the job.
Get a phone camera with a good MPS if you don't want to carry a seperate camera. At least you will get the photo, and then you can crop, etc in software at home.

I've mentored several new photographers over the years. One thing I always tell them is that as an art form, photography is capturing the moments of life. If you don't have your equipment with you, you will miss great shots. Sometimes those shots are only there for a few seconds, sometimes you wait for hours.

Hello Alaskanfrog, this is TP. The dog is a 13 year old cocker-poo. So you are correct, it is part poodle. It is my son's dog, but I end up babysitting him most of the time.(you know how that goes!) Attached another pic for you.

That's a good one..I may do that. Goes along with my previous post in this thread. Keep your gear with you and ready. Case in point, 60 MPH down a dirt road, out of a deep ditch on my right came unseen antelope. Nikon on the seat beside me with the 300 mm zoom, missed them with a big old Lincoln by maybe 4 feet. Sliding sideways in the road, I got off two shots out of the driver side window before they continued running.

I can rarely think of a time I don't have a camera on the car seat next to me for that very reason. I hope you buy a camera even if it is just a point and shoot! Would have loved to see the photo of the cats.

Sometimes even having a camera doesn't help. I was driving and saw a hawk coming in for a landing inside a curved off ramp. Too much traffic to stop or slow down. Made me sick.

Not to worry....we all have those "Awwww, CRAP!!!" moments LOL.I carry a Canon in my purse, and frequently have another around my neck, and still miss shots when the circumstances just won't fall into place.

Hey TP,

thank you for posting the photo of your son's dog. Our Chewie was a girl and I see this one's a boy, but no matter. I'll show my wife the pic's. Do you have a larger photo of the one you used in your profile post? I think the wife would be much more interested in seeing that wonderful face that reminds me of our belated and beloved pooch. Thank you for your response and for sharing a small part of your personal life. By the way, my name is James... I'm probably the biggest frog (at 380 pounds) that you'll ever meet. Thanks again...

This is why. I am driving home today (I live out in the country) when I notice a Bobcat kitten siting by the side of the county road I live on. I stop to look at it because it is only about 10 ft away. It looks at me not afraid at all so I make a cat meow to see what it does. All of a sudden a house cat kitten comes out of the field meowing. It walks over to the Bobcat and they rub noses, sit down, and look at me. Of course I don't get out because momma Bobcat might and probably is hiding close behind a bush. I can't prove it because I don't even own a camera yet!

Yes this is a lesson we often learn with the sacrifice of no proof that an event happened... Last year I pull into my banks parking lot, finished filling out my deposit slip and into the parking lot drives the Oscar Meyer Wiener Mobile... I'd only ever seen it once before, and that was about 50?? years ago! Of course my Camera was at home... So no picture...
Now my trust worthy old P&S stays in my car with a fresh set of batteries for emergencies.
