I also have an older car a Subaru with 250,00 miles on it and realistically I should have bought a newer used car instead of the d850, but to me art is more important right now. Priorities, right?
I have recently been selling large prints and actually need the resolution bump, when printing large no matter what people say more mega pixels is better.
I really don't want to be in a situation where I think to my self man should have photographed that with a better camera so it looked better printed out. Also I am confident 46 MP is going to be a sweet spot, I do not really want to mess with larger files. Especially when doing a ten image night sky star stack with tiffs.
All the bells and wihistles of this camera are great but not nessecary for me except the DR, high ISO, tilt screen and resolution bump. Oh and frame rate, oh and maybe focus peaking lol
When I used to do 4x5 all we worried about was tilt shift and compose then expose for shadows and develop for highlights.
Oh are the days of looking into that beautiful ground glass gone.
So now we squeeze all we can out of the digital world tech.
Good times!!!

Probably the Canon 5D Mark 4. That cameras sold new for $3500 when it was first released.
30mp vs 46mp - adv Nikon
DPAF vs "Not" (if you care about video) - adv Canon
MOV codec with 1.74crop vs "Not" (if you care about video) - adv Nikon
-3EV vs -4EV for af - adv Nikon
DR, FPS, AF, blah blah blah....close enough for what I care about.... :-)
(9FPs requires an extra 750 cash on the Nikon otherwise Canon and Nikon tie here too)
If it werent for the advantage Canon has in lens quality, if I were starting from scratch...Nikon would be compelling.....
DPAF is the only real advantage (for me)Canon has at the body level over the D850....the lenses and other non-spec items are what will keep me with Canon for the coming years....

Best camera in the world is the one I currently own. Why? Its mine, does what I need and know how to use it.
Precisely. I couldn't have said it any better.

Canon will come out with a better or equivalent camera soon any way I never really understood changing systems.
As far as lenses canon seems to have an edge with a lot of there glass and Nikon does better with some. It really comes down to perfecting the equipment we have on hand (love the one your with) lol,
For my glass I use use very few Nikon glass mostly I use manual focus zeiss.
Two quick thoughts: One, the very best camera in the world may be a Minox if you happen to be an international spy, or an 8" X 10" Deardorff if you need to make a 40 by 60 foot enlargement. The "best" camera is the one most suited for what you want to do with it. Second, as a very successful professional photographer once told me: "Professionals are interested in making money. If I could shoot a job successfully with a Brownie Hawkeye that cost me ten bucks, that's what I would use". Only amateurs buy outrageously expensive cameras to do what a much cheaper one would do.

The reviews are starting to come in for the Nikon D850. To quote from Photographyblog: "Offering a compelling balance of size and speed, the Nikon D850 is the best all-round DSLR camera that we've ever had the pleasure of reviewing. This is really the one camera that can do it all, from landscapes to action, reportage to weddings, the D850 handles it all with aplomb." I anticipate the three usual responses: 1)we don't have enough information, 2)there's no such thing as the world's best camera, 3)mirrorless cameras rock. What other bodies would you nominate for world's best?
Ed by several, reviews, and our readers comments. But one shooter's ying is another shooter's yand, onenman's trash, another's treasure,

The "Best" of anything is so subjective that it is virtually impossible to settle on that one thing. I don't, for a minute, dispute that the new 850 is a fine camera, as evidenced by our members' comments, and other's reviews. But one shooter's yin is another shooter's yang; one man's trash is another's treasure, and on-and-on. I would personally settle on a couple sobriquets; this is one fine instrument, or, this is certainly among the worlds best, and let it go at that.

I agree on your point use what you have that will do the job.
I disagree that only armatures will buy this camera
Pros usually use d3 d4 d5 at much higher price point.
If you only look at your work on computer then I agree if you print large these extra megapixels makes a difference 25% more resolution is big.

That's the beauty of being an amateur. No need to check a balance sheet, just the checkbook. Its worth is judged by the smile it puts on your face.

I won't disagree with its quality and demonstrably great capabilities. But all cameras are just like the Federal Budget... they are only good the day they are released and then things change.
need a lift to hold it up! plus bad 4k

It may be the best all a round camera (maybe) at the moment, until Canon or Sony or some other maker tops it.
