Thank you.

Try this software for Windows: http://www.eosmsg.com/

Yes, it comes from China - as do many good things (not all), but if you want a shutter count on a Canon camera this will do it accurately. It is not free, roughly $5 for each camera with unlimited use. Downloaded from the main site I have found it to be malware free (yes, I test downloads). It works just fine on my newly acquired EOS 80D and claims support for the 5DIV.

It seems that Dire studios also offers a solution that works.

I don't like to say this, but MT Shooter is out of his depth, and also integrity as a professional. He either doesn't know what he is talking about, or deliberately tells lies. Neither one of the two available options makes him a credible dealer to do business with. The saddest thing is that while he is knowledgeable on some things his over the top inaccurate blustery posts undermine his credibility on things that he does actually know about. The very worst kind of salesman, one that cannot be trusted.

Thank you. I have been using eosmsg for some time now for my older cameras, but it did not work for the 5D4. Perhaps I need to get a newer version which may have been updated for the newer cameras. Thanks for the tip.

I don't have a 5D IV to test, but it works just fine on an 80D which is a similar Canon technology generation, and yes the newer version of EOSmsg is required.

I don't know if there is a program to give you the shutter actuations fo the 5D4, but I know that I have taken 907 shots with mine. Simple solution for me. I use continuous numbering. Did the same thing for my 6D and therefore was able to tell the buyer how many actuations it had. Great as long as you are constant and honest wh en you go to sell.

That's a good strategy, unless you do a bunch of video or liveview work. Shutter count isn't that important, but it is nice to know if buying or selling a used camera.

Dire studios, EOSmsg, and Magic Lantern (on cameras it functions on) can provide an accurate count for Canon cameras.

With so little use that is a good system for you, but I have already taken over 35,000 shots with mine and your simple solution would not work for me. ShutterCount by Dire is a simple way to track shutter counts for the 5div.

Perhaps you should re-read the OP's post. OP asked about the 5D mark IV. Your answer was totally irrelevant to the discussion, and you want us to re-read it! Who cares what software you use for your camera?

BTW I thought it was brilliant the way the OP shut you up simply by responding "thank you"

The only challenge is that the Dire Studios software does not run natively on Windows for the 5DIV. It requires a WiFi connection, which may or may not be deemed adequate.

For a Windows system it appears that EOSmsg is a good approach, possibly the only one that works for the most modern Canon cameras.

As a Mac user I would have to defer to your knowledge. Interesting that it uses a wifi connection to determine the shutter count.

That's simply what the Dire Studios web site says!

Oops, apparently I got your panties in a twist, and for that I'm profoundly sorry!
