Aside from commercial photography why do people take pictures? What do they do with them?
Just because. Why do people hit a little white ball around acres of green grass?

As good an answer as any?

Just because they can. And then they screw up in Photoshop what Mother Nature created.

It is a hobby like other hobbies. I keep them for self pleasure of nature and family remembrances.

Why do people paint? Why play music?
Damn..... I couldn't agree with you more....

I enjoy looking at them, a sense of accomplishment. Some of my better ones I'll print or have printed. Some of those get framed and hung on a wall in my house. Others I only view on my computer. Most just reside as files on my HDD, and some not even processed, remaining as RAW only. That last group is just short of crappy; the horrible messes get deleted. Some photos I share with friends as email attachments or posted on FaceBook. And a few get shared often only as examples to illustrate a point here on the UHH.
It is a wonderful hobby and it records events so that you can go back to them and refresh your memory. It is as good of a hobby as any and it is one you can continue to do as you get older (like me - 74 years old).
I guess I'm not the first who was prompted to get into photography when I viewed some great photos and thought that I would like to be able to produce that quality of work. (I'm still trying)

Why do you ask? You seem to claim to be a photographer, and also have assistants or students. Don't you have enough answers to that question by now?
Is this just another reason to waste bandwidth and energy, and people's time?
Peterff what is your problem? It is a very good question to ask.
Mother nature did not create the photographs!

I ask, simply because it seems to be a starter for another endless and pointless discussion. Every individual has their motives, or at least should have. If this is intended as a therapy discussion, then fair enough, some people enjoy, like or need therapy. However, there doesn't seem to be any other point to the discussion.
