Because the Gettysburg Memorials were put up to commemorate the men fighting on both sides... both sides. Most of the Lee, Bedford, Davis and Jackson statues were put up during the Jim Crow laws and then again from 1915 to 1940 when the kkk saw a resurgence.

1) The duly elected Charlottesville city council voted 4-3 to take the statue down and unanimously to change the name from Lee Park.

2) Unite the Right, a white supremacist group organized a protest, the largest of its kind in years. Many other white supremacist, neo-nazi and neo-confederates joined the protest including David Duke of the KKK.

I stand corrected on which government group is responsible for security at our Embassies.

I had read an article which incorrectly stated that the CIA was responsible for security at our Embassies around the world. It actually is the State Department.

According to the State Department website:

The chain of command is the Security of State, the Chief of Mission (COM), executed through the Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS) also known as regional security officers (RSOs) who serve as the primary advisers to the (COM) and when serving abroad, provide the first line of defense for embassy staff and their families.

Based on this chain of command, it's my belief that there was a breakdown in communications between the Embassy staff, and going up the chain of command.

From what I remember reading and hearing on the news at the time, there were some time sensative requests for additional security personnel that never reached Secretary Clinton until it was way too late to send in reinforcements.

My question is not receiving a direct answer. So let's try it this way. There were two groups of protesters at Charlottesville one was for the destruction and one was for keeping the Lee statue alone. One group was liberal and the other was right. Who was who and what was their party affiliation?
